Go for the Nissan. The NZE is quite overrated.

Yes Yes Nisaan but has anyone given you facts why they choose the Nissan. Whoever said the car infront is always a Toyota wasnt wrong in facts.A newly imported 2005 NZE will cost you 900k currently. A newly imported bluebird sylphy will cost u say 650k. If u were to need your money money after driving out of the showroom the nze wud fetch 870k while the nissan 550k as used cars now even if it was for a day. The Nissan has shaky suspension not as comfortable as the nze and an almost guarantee of replacing the engine or gearbox within 2 years regardless of how you drive and maintain. Wou onto you should any sensor fail which they will anyway prepare 20-30k to buy. The front suspension bushes and shocks were made from mud or match-sticks breakss very quickly. In the event of a collission where insurance doesnt come in say you rip off the gate at 2am prepare to sell your fridge and i phone and even getting the parts is lyk hell. The NZE is a super car well rated across the world as lomg as u service it well and dont abuse it you will not go wrong. The initial price is 250k higher but i bet u will get value. If the 2 cars are used the same way for 2 years the nze will sell at 750k will the nissan 380000ksh. I u want to go for the nissan i reccomend the Tiida salloon especially id u import it yourself. For the Nze go for the assista package with power windows which u can get at 850k newly imported 2005 model.

A similar unit to this will set you back about 650k. [Am trying to paste the pics for this new Nissan...nimeshindwa!!]

As much as you know, Toyotas as overpriced, but ideally Nissans are as economical and cheap to maintain. We have been using a KBG Nissan Sylphy for 4years now, and it's still spackling. No engine or gearbox replacement as you claim.

So after the 2 yrs both cars will have depreciated by nearly the same amount: the NZE 150k and the Nissan 170K. I think the Nissan is a better financial deal then since you will have saved 250k in the purchase price and they will both lose the same amount in depreciation.

Forget about comfort, style or design. Asanteni!
In my previous motoring life I have owned a toyota (AE100) and also a Nissan (B14) and the Toyota was more superior in terms of performance (EFI engine), handling, reliability, comfort (independent suspension) and also the design. I believe it must be the same for newer models. The toyota was also more expensive to buy.

However, the game has changed, other car-makers have sorted out their gremlins. In terms of fuel consumption and general running costs, I bet the new Nissan Sylphy beats the corolla any day, despite having a 2 Liter Engine.

Am not sure which game Nissan upped since i did own a SYLPHY and disposed it off in 2010 after it cost a certain sensor that cost me 25k. I know people who have been messed by toyotas but the numbers are a drop in the pacific compared to nissan u move to a respectable garage u will see many nissans and mitshubishis relatively new on top of stones awaiting owners to raise sme funds. As we talk my friend in langata is awaiting to raise 60k to buy a new wingroad engine after speding 18k trying to fix. Its a 2005 KBQ.NZE unless u drive it without oil or water will never stop on its own.I was toyota biggest hater until i bought the sylphy.

X-trail is the only nissan that seems to commands some respect around as long as u are ready to pay the expensive parts and drive it with check engine permanently on the dash

premio wrote:X-trail is the only nissan that seems to commands some respect around as long as u are ready to pay the expensive parts and drive it with check engine permanently on the dash I have to commend Kenyans for really marketing the Toyota Brand. Without running the risk of being branded as a badly-informed rumor monger, I have made the following observations [No statistical data available]: 1. Most of the chaps who owned the older edition of premio moved on up to buy the Xtrail (when it was a lot cheaper). 2. The Guys who owned the earlier edition of NZE, have all moved up to buy Toyota Wish. (Bigger Engine, Bigger hauling space) 3. This argument always boils down to who shouts loudest. The guys at Toyota perfected the art of shouting down their rivals, who may have superior products but very poor marketing strategy e.g Nissan, Honda, Subaru etc. I have never seen anyone who buys a second NZE, after disposing off an older NZE. It is a cheap car to run, but a crap car to drive.--- My 2 cents.

Too many myths on this thread - if someone knows one Sylphy that has issues, it doesn't mean all the Nissans have issues. I know of a taxi company that has close to 100 NZE's - and their workshop is ever busy. All sorts of problems - including gear box, sensors etc. But that doesn't make an NZE a bad car.
We need to move from castigating brands coz of a few bad examples. I bought a car 4 years ago - I had the options of: NZE, Fielder, Mitsubishi Cedia - at the last minute I came across an Opel Astra on offer by IBC. I can guarantee you that every single person I spoke to discouraged me from buying the Opel. I went ahead and bought it after doing my own research. It cost me 200K less than the Fielder & NZE. It costs me the same exact amount per service and consumes the same as the 1.8 premio (which is now at 1.2M), fielder and even the wish. As far as I am concerned, pundits can scream from the rooftops - but I made a good decision.
I advise that you do your research - listen to opinions first then do your research against those opinions. Ultimately, buy what will make you happy and what will make you feel that your money was well spent.

As I said in my post, this argument is usually determined by who shouts the loudest e.g. Honda has been having Vvti Technology in their cars since 1992. Toyota joined the fray somewhere in year 2000,and boy oh boy, haven't they harped about it.. In the meantime, its good to see there are more people out there who think outside the box and steer away from the noise.
