I just bought the Airtel 3.75G modem and I can attest that it is stable and has great speeds. I was a Safcom diehard when it came to data but after it withdrew unlimited, I have put that aside for now.

Anyway, feel free to vote on a poll on my blog and share which is your best internet provider.

I also made the switch to Airtel 3.75G and it's literally beating Zuku 2nd last package broadband unbeleivably. I'm a heavy data user and couldn't be happier. All this 3G,3.5G,3.7G,4G is just marketing gimmicks. Airtel has theirs capped at 1.25Mbps (speedtest.net)am not sure what cap figure safcom has theirs at. 3.75G is supposed to be hitting 21Mbps (HSDPA) if it is real. All the same, it's better than what I was using before. Looks like the MSPs will be knocking out our local ISPs in a matter of time, no wonder Accesskenya is going to the dogs.

I just coudnt understand why people used safcom internet. Airtel is mambo yote . Even if they have a cap at 1 mbps thats enough to do allot .am even suprised at how airtel has very well managd the massive massive influx of heavy data users from safaricom
Airtel mambo yote.
And access kenya isnt going to the dogs ! There's a huge cooperate segment they have a grip on. And they have one of the best fiber networks in kenya.

I have a problem with Nairobians who base all their arguments on the fact that Nairobi is Kenya.

Nairobi is not Kenya. It just happens to be a part of Kenya.

Some of us have access to Safaricom only.

My relatives and friends have problems when they visit for other service providers are not available and when they are, users have to climb trees or go to the roof to access their respective service providers.

Perhaps then you could rephrase your poll with options that inquire what service providers are available and the region one is based.

For me, Safaricom it is for their is no other to compare with.

@Promanet

Sorry I forgot to put orange. I figured it is not that popular yet.

@Drobos fly

I have heard many talking about Airtel beating Zuku. so far so good with me. Thanks for the info about the speeds being capped.

@QW

Safcom internet was great, stable and fast. The only problem on my side is the fact that they withdrew unlimited internet, forcing me to make the smooth switch.

@AE

Hi. How you doing? Been long!

I totally fall into the bracket you are talking about Nairobi. I should expand my wings to cover the whole country. In my poll Safcom still has the most votes by far.I guess that reflects the views of the rest of the country. And probably not as many have tried the Airtel 3.75. I would want to look at the poll again in a year to see how Airtel performs in the whole country.

@Wazua

Kwani you stopped email follow-up notifications (remember it was my idea to put it up when you guys were still SK). Please work on that so that I can be getting real time comments

I agree Safaricom is great. On the other hand, Airtel has clearly beat them in Unlimited (Safcom withdrew). They compete in limited bundle speeds. I guess what AE says above may be what gives them a little edge.

I bought Airtel and it owrked fine in Nairobi, when I went to Nakuru it sucked big time. Seems Airtel still has a selective network. In terms of coverage Safcon beats them all. In terms of performance, there is little difference between the two. I quit Orange because their staff at Teleposta treated me like trash (I take customer relations very seriously. i can't give you my money and you treat me like a malaya)

@Elder,

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

That *544# is for Safaricom when you want to check the balance using your mobile phone. It also has some other stuff on Safcom internet.

Actually, I don't know how to check Airtel bundle balance. I asked them on Twitter and they said they are working on it, so maybe they don't have. I guess you can monitor your MBs (received and sent) to see how you are doing.

You may also opt to be like some of us and get the unlimited bundle (750/week, 3000/month)

*544# is how you check the bundle balance on Airtel. Do not know how it is that the customer support do not know.

1. Remove the Airtel sim card from the modem, and put it in a phone.
2. Enter *544# A USSD menu will show. The first option is check balance.
3. After selecting the first option, you will receive an sms with your bundle balance.

That's the Airtel USSD, also *111# works too but *544# is a shortcut.

to make a like for like comparison you first need to split between consumer and business. e.g. KDN does NOT do consumer - they may do very large accounts like banks, etc and 90% of their business is backhauling for other providers like scom, airtel, access, etc (they are a carrier of carriers - and infrastructure provider). So no wonder no one is voting for them.

Not sure why Orange is not included. But as said, if you have one poll for consumer and one for business, you will see a major difference.
