Mpg versus km/litre for hybrids

I noticed that the rating for the 3rd generation hybrid cars is in miles per gallon (Mpg). Conversion of this to km/L does not add up the much hyped fuel savings for electric cars. E.g a prius hybrid doing 54mpg highway drive translates to 10km/litre which is what a fully fueled vvt-i 1500 cc engine does on highway. ama?

Could be benefit is on "hybride!" i.e use of electricity. The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.

When doing the conversions to/from km/l or litres/100 km to MPG, always note whether the MPG refers to the US or the UK(Imperial) system. They are different.
1 km/L ~ 2.352 mpg (US) ~ 2.8248 (UK)
E.g. for this 2005 Prius on autotrader (http://goo.gl/c2tyM), the stats show
Fuel consumption (urban) 56.5 mpg Fuel consumption (extra urban) 67.3 mpg Fuel consumption (combined) 65.7 mpg
Which translates to: Fuel consumption (urban) 20 km/l Fuel consumption (extra urban) 23.82 km/l Fuel consumption (combined) 23.26 km/l
Of course the figures are what the manufacturer claims...
** Swali: Apart from the Prius, what other hybrids are found on KE roads? Are they 'serviceable' ?
