Am totally fed up with this cat and mouse game with my former landlady.Since she purports to be a professional the only way to smoke her out is to name and shame.
How have you guys dealt with landlords who get attached to your house deposits??

Simple. Just involve the cops after u've exhausted all channels of dialogue or threaten her with that. If she's wise,she'll sober up.
Cops should be the last resort thou

Did you fulfill your duty as tenant when moving out,paint job, repair work etc or was she to do it then give you the balance? When that is in order, you can then use other channels to try get your money. Some people go to the chief (i don't know how effective that is) or get a lawyer friend to write a demand letter-hoping it will scare her.

Write a letter to KRA saying she collected rent from you without remitting tax and leave it at that. Give her a copy and let her know you are dispatching the letter within twenty four hours if your deposit is not refunded. This will facilitate a fast response.
