1. Empty recycle bin
2. Uninstall any unused programs
3. Uninstall some windows applications - Control Panel - Add/remove programs - add/remove windows components (depends on your version of windows
4. Download and install CCleaner (from piriform.com)
5. Scan for viruses (some viruses duplicate files, causing your disk space to get full). Try Norman Malware Cleaner, or Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool - these are free. Google them with quotes.

You may also consider right-clicking your C drive, click on properties, on the General Tab click on Disk Cleanup and follow the prompts. Repeat for other drives.

stop wasting time with short cut solutions. If the problem is recurring it means you have no disk space worth talking about. Ccleaner only removes temp files, removing a program only frees up no more than 5g and next month the same problem starts again.

So as someone has said, remove all the porn on your laptop. Or extra documents you don't need.

If not, go add another hard-drive, external harddrive if you have to and continue watching your porn in peace.

The hard disk is partitioned into drives C (20gb) and D, E and H which are each 40gb. I moved all the documents in C to the other drives, and also the programs that I could, and deleted some that I couldn't. Currently drives D,E and H have over 30gb of free space each (making a total of over 100gb), but drive C has only 100mb. My problem is to increase the space in drive C, which appears to be getting smaller with each day......And yes, i deleted the 20gb of porn that was in drive E.

It's because you're saving all your documents to drive C. Try saving the documents on the other disk drives. You have more than enough space.

Let me explain. 100G is a lot of space.

If it says disk space is full it means you are using up the 100G of that space there. I doubt if you have 100G worth of software installed.

Instead what I think is happening is that your computer settings automatically save anything you are using in the C drive unless you tell it not to. So in this instance CCleaner may be handy to you.

So yes, whether you know it or not, then your stuff is being saved there. Open it up and remove anything you don't need from there. If you wish, move them to the other drives.

The best option is to take it to a good guy in town and they should be able to redistribute your hard drive space very quickly. I personally don't see why you should have 5 different hard drive partitions when you only have documents.

Get Partition Magic version 8 and over ...it will resize the disk drives (doesn't work on Vista and Windows 7 ...unless they have recently fixed it). Make sure to back up your stuff cause nasty things that can force you to format the drive can happen

You can also disable hibernation,..if its on. Hibernation creates and allocates a huge system file that eats up space ..upto 1GB or your RAM size or more.
Reduce the size of the paging file also, and the size of your browsers cache.

Doing these things have their disadvantages of course Sad

Download "Tree Size Viewer" from http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/ and use it to check which folder(s)/files in your C drive are taking up most of the space. Once you have that, you can decide to either delete or move them to the other drives.

This was very insightful. I think you need to scan your computer for viruses that replicate documents. When downloading movies, you must be picking a lot of viruses. I hope your problem is resolved and thanks all for the useful insights.

Why so many partitions? I thought two would be more than enough and then use an external hard disk. I recommend Transcend StoreJet portable external hard disk. It's served me well and the rubber insulation ensures your disk is not damaged when it falls.

BBI will solve it

Use a Linux based partition logic software and re-size your Disc. I would recommend 40Gb for your OS partition. Also as you install your programs, don't always install in the default location.

The 20GB porn you deleted is still in the recycle bin. Now delete it from the recycle bin.
