While the average man on the street may be excused for making such a blunder, professionals trained in the use of a certain language cannot. They are expected to maintain the highest standards in using that language.

This is the reason school children are encouraged to read newspapers in order to improve their language skills.... because a newspaper is expected to have the highest standard of language. But when journalists start using such words as "dateline" instead of "deadline" and "incidence" instead of "incidents", then they must be reprimanded for misleading the public.

What is an UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE? Once you have a degree, you are no longer an undergraduate! Perhaps the writer meant undergraduate STUDIES

Good point; however should you take 'degree' to be an uncountable noun, then the said writer's 'undergraduate degree' holds good.

No. No. No.

A degree is what you get after graduating.

An undergraduate is a person who is still studying for his/her first degree.

Therefore, there is no such thing as an undergraduate degree!

'No' x3 isn't enough I'm afraid. You still have to show why you disagree.

Undergrad (noun) = student; undergrad (adj) = 'relates to undergrads'.
Undergraduate degree therefore = the degree that relates to undergrads.

Therefore there is such a thing as undergraduate degree!

AP officer kills woman, self in Embakasi.......

An Administration Police officer on Thursday night shot and killed a woman before turning the gun on himself in a domestic brawl at Nairobi's Embakasi area.
“After he fell down, we realised that the lady was still alive and writhing in pain from the gunshot wound she sustained around the jaw area,” said Ms Irene Mugo. “We rushed her to a local clinic.”……However, efforts to verify the status of the lady did not bear fruit as Nation was unable to trace the clinic the victim was admitted to.

A house collapsed at Myanga village in Bumula District, Busia County burying alive seven members of one family.

And an eight-year-old boy was swept by raging waters of Chemogo River when returning home from school for lunch. A two-year-old girl died after she was also swept away by floods in Nambale District.Area Councillor Jack Wambulwa said water entered into the room where the girl was sleeping while her parents were digging a trench to drain their homestead.

“She was sleeping on the mat on the floor and her parents were busy digging a channel unaware that the water had found its way into the house,” he said.

Captioned on a picture in the Business Daily

Quote:

The sentence itself sounds wrong and poorly constructed. d'oh!

Daily Nation,

The shooting happens barely two days after an AK-47 wielding thugs exchanged fire with Mr Daniel Prastola, a Slovakian and the owner of a security firm based at the Village Market, in Kileleshwa.

Is this new? I left Village market on the other side of Nairobi?
