That we should aim to have 23% population living under a dollar a day?

why have such low expectations?
our goals are best achieved indirectly

@ Architech. Did you factor the populations? e.g Nigeria's population is close if not 6 times bigger than Algeria. Looking at the Barrels produced a day, they are not significantly difference, therefore assuming the revenues trickle to citizens, i expect the algerians to get more per person than the nigerians. Got my point?

@simplified..thanks.
@kiterunner..see the full list below..
@harryde..we are dealing with a % of the total population that lives on less than 1 usd per day. This is the best measure to see whether the oil is really helping its citizens.

Notes:
Uganda even without oil exports has a very low % of its citizens in poverty-24.5%.
Chad, even with 'assistance' from Worldbank since 2003, has 80% of its population in abject poverty.
Kenya, even without oil export, has a higher % of its population above poverty level than most oil producing african countries.

If we go in with the 'willing buyer, willing seller' mentality, we will end up as Nigerians!

For we will sell everything as they are currently doing.

@impunity..most of the African countries loose since they start by fighting each other in a civil war ofcourse instigated by greedy foreigners.

I can not want to imagine the damage that a civil war can cause when one or both members on opposing sides get hold of the nuclear weapons.

African nationalism and solidarity is crucial to prevent such catastrophes.

African countries can learn from india,South America-Brazil,,China,South Korea ,Malaysia on how to instill nationalism which will prevent civil wars instigated by foreign powers.

Gadaffi was killed by his own citizens backed by NATO.
