The nation has been blessed and made great in many ways in previous days. But, the Lord says there will now come forth out of her a 'shooting branch' that will seem to come from nowhere. It will shoot forth as a wide stem, with wide branches, and will bear much, much fruit. The Lord says you'll see it and you'll know it. You'll hear about it. It'll be in the news headlines. It'll be broadcast all over the world! You'll be talked about. You'll even be the envy of other nations. They'll say; "Why Kenya? What is it about Kenya?" The Lord says My favour is coming upon you, O Kenya, for you've found favour in My sight!

I will develop Kenya in technologies, international trade, and in international business dealings! I will raise Kenya to become a cosmopolitan society, and the world will notice!

There is need to stop this excitement and think:-

1) Are we being conned? I have been seeing big chunks of big buck changing hands.

haya!

2) Is the government taking a second to think before signing some of these agreements? What makes us believe there are 2 billion barrels of oil. What if these guys suck this whole thing in 5 yrs and disappear? What makes us think they will pump it after the 5th year while govt takes 100%. if they down their tools and demand a 50-50 then, what can we do? after all, we don't have the skills.

revenues sharing

This is the point I ask, where are our Engineers. close to 60 yrs after independence and we still relying on outsiders.

3) The Turkana People, is anyone even thinking of these people?

1.d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

2. revenue sharing agreement: Tullow Oil/GOK
Year 1: 80/20
Year 2: 60/40
Year 3: 40/60
Year 4: 20/80
Year 5: 00/100

d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

3. d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

what makes you think they will keep extracting after year 5? Maybe they know by 3rd year there will be very little crude left..so what do we get as Kenya?

From the surveys, conservative estimates indicate deposits could amount to two billion barrels that have an extraction lifespan of between 15 to 20 years.

GOK should keep vigil so that we don’t get a raw deal

yap its now official kenya will become the top oil producing nation in east africa

"The net pay encountered so far in Ngamia-1 is more than double that encountered in any of our East African exploration wells to date," said Angus McCoss, exploration director at Tullow. "We now look forward to the drilling and evaluation of the deeper potential of this well and the acceleration of our seismic and drilling campaigns in the region."

This is huge 100 metres is what you find in Saudia, Iraq

"The company said it had encountered a total net oil pay in excess of 100 metres across multiple reservoir zones in the Ngamia-1 well it is drilling on Block 10BB with its partner Africa Oil Corp.

Tullow said the well, which is in Kenya's far northern county of Turkana, had so far been drilled to a depth of 1,515 metres.

"A total pay count greater than 100 metres has now been discovered over a gross oil-bearing interval of 650 metres,"
http://af.reuters.com/ar...s/idAFJOE84605W20120507

Africa Oil President and CEO, Keith Hill, stated, "The total pay sand thickness in this well has far exceeded pre-drilling estimates and certainly has highly positive implications for numerous similar prospects on trend. Based on these results, we are working with our partner Tullow to source additional rigs and acquire additional seismic to accelerate the exploration campaign in this basin. Our goal in the near term will be to assess the size and extent of the potential of this newly discovered basin."

With all that oil found, we are yet to find commercial viability?
What exactly are 'commercial deposits'

btw..oil seems very easy to mine..since it floats above water and is found in pressurized aquifiers, all they need is to run water inside for the oil to float above.
Am sure with a few years of trial and error, kenyan engineers can hack it..

..i think its like adding water into a soda bottle that has oil at the bottom..the more water you add, the more the oil level rises to the top..any geology engineers in the house to expound?

Oil Drilling..

http://science.howstuffw...nergy/oil-drilling7.htm

Quote:
Extracting Oil

After the rig is removed, the crew puts a pump on the well head.

In the pump system, an electric motor drives a gear box that moves a lever. The lever pushes and pulls a polishing rod up and down. The polishing rod is attached to a sucker rod, which is attached to a pump. This system forces the pump up and down, creating a suction that draws oil up through the well.

In some cases, the oil may be too heavy to flow. In these cases, the crew drills a second hole into the reservoir and injects steam under pressure. The heat from the steam thins the oil in the reservoir, and the pressure helps push it up the well. This process is called enhanced oil recovery.
