@tbill/ bond investors.
What would you advice.
1. To buy bonds/tbills directly from CBK
2. To join a money market fund traing in tbills/bonds.

also do stock brokers/investment banks help to trade in tbills/bonds? or is it better to go direct through CBK.

regards

Note also that there are times when MMFs pay higher than the T-Bill average. Good to keep your eye on the rates regularly.

MMFs are currently ranging from 5.78 % [CBA] and 9.94% (Madison and Amana] - BUT not clear if these figures are net of wht.

Yesterday's T-Bill average was 9.979 = 8.85@ after wht.

so why not just invest in faulu?

Faulu offers fixed deposit accounts - cash not available on demand.

T-Bill is also like fixed deposit but can be traded for cash in secondary market if cash is required.

MMFs cash is available on demand; most will RTGS to your account in 72hrs

Now take your pick

And you have to forgo a significant portion of the interest! Otherwise, why should I buy from you when I can wait a few days and buy direct from CBK? You, however, might be looking at two months to maturity, and you need the cash pap.... It's a buyer's market!

Currently the Money Market Funds offer better returns than the T-Bills. Bonds require long term investment, which is money you don't need in the medium term.

Top MMFs are Amana Capital, Zimele, CIC, Madison Asset, Britam & GenCap.

Where do the MMF's invest these funds?

In Treasury Bills and Bonds of course and diversify to include commercial paper and off-shore investments. But if they offer better returns than the T-bills and bonds, why not get them and then move your money into the T-bills when the returns are better, it is easier to break the MMF holdings than the T-bills.

How can they be investing in TBills and bonds and offer better returns. That does not make sense.

you dont necessarily need your own CDS account, banks act as agents and you could buy bills/bonds under a banks client account
