I used this wonderfully constructed road about a week ago to and from Embu. The return trip was quite smooth but rather confusing as it was at night and the lanes are unmarked. No reflectors on the road either. Just wondering if the marking will be done any time soon.

Will they use Crown paints?smile

Just joking. But since you're in the industry why doesn't the paint used last or after how often should it be repeated?

BBI will solve it

@CB,
It will ultimately be done.It used to be the same on Naks -Timboroa road and Lanet-Olkalou - Njabini road.Right now,this two roads are absolutely awesome apart from the Sachangwan climb which is being re-done.

@ 2012 I pray that they will use crown paints smile

Any way the type of marking materials used will determine how long the markings last. Traditionally, low traffic roads are marked using water or oil based paints. Water based paints are low cost and have short drying time but on the downside they have moderate visibility on wet nights and usually wear out within a year.

For better visibility, good retroreflectivity and longer lasting road markings, thermoplastics, epoxys and tapes are used.

@Njung'e; you mean they have done the Lanet-Ndundori road? I last used it in 1976! It used to be a great smooth earth road...

They should not just paint the road. They should also use the small reflectors that mark the lanes and the end of the road. They are very visible at night. I do not know why they are no longer used.

P.S I saw them on Mbagathi way the other night. The road is awesome to drive at night but very noisy though because of the rough concrete.

@Mukiha,

Apologies.Shame on you .I should have said Ndundori-Ol-Kalou-Njabini road (I love the spins and hairbends on this road between Ndundori-Olkalou and the stretch between Miharati and Tigoni.They do knock of wind) even though SS Mehtah is working on the Lanet-Ndundori stretch.Actually part of it (Barracks-Kona Mbaya) is already open to traffic.

I thought Ndundori is somewhere after Londokwe. @Njung'e .. What do you do for a living?

@Mukiha...Where do you branch off to get to the new Njambini-Olkalau rd if I depart Nairobi? I need to use the route to get to Nakuru, do I then proceed to Nyahu and Subukia or there is another tarmacked route from Olkalau to Lanet?
Wisdom to detect when share prices hit rock bottom.
When interest on bonds keep going up, you know the bear run is on high street. When interest on bonds start leveling, the bear has met the bull and they have hit rock bottom. When the interest rates on bonds start coming down, the bull has overpowered the bear and you better be riding the bull.

@Sure,
Eish.....Why would you want to know?.I am a hustlersmile

To take the new Njabini-Olkalou (Not Njambini...damn!) road,take a left turn at the fly-over after Kimende (Slightly past Soko Mjinga).There is a centre about a KM from the junction.Here,turn to the right and if you forget to and proceed straight,you'll find yourself in Thika...Laughing out loudly .The road will take you past Magumu secondary,Kwa-Haraka centre and down to Njabini.The stretch between the fly-over and Njabini centre is roughly 25KM and the road is not as good.At Njabini,turn left and proceed to Engineer-Tigoni-Miharati-Rironi-Jiret-Kariamu and on to Jua Kali (Junction on Gilgil-Nyahururu road.Turn left towards Gilgil and then right at the next petrol station 500 metres down the road(Should be National) and take the road through Ol-kalou town to Passenga,Tumaini,Ndundori,down to Lanet.....Total distance should be kindu 120KM of sheer fun driving.

Ahem.. Guka I know you travel great distances... so maybe its a matter of semantics but I would say take the left at the flyover WAY PAST kimende at that point just before the slope downhill towards Naivasha starts.

I used njambini-ol kalou road last week and it is well done. But it needs bumps as you reach ol-kalou there is a very sharp bend that will cost lives....al ready has claimed lives. I had my first accident ever at this point a few months ago, it was the third accident that day, and an hour later there was yet another one where a life was lost.
