Hi wazuans!

I have a flat which i was been given by my grandparent's it has only two floors and am looking forward on putting up another floor. Anyone with an idea how much it will cost to put up the floor with nine single rooms.

Your views will be highly appreciated.

Dear Njokishk,

You need to get in touch with a consultant for concrete and complete info on it.

However for estimates purposes you check out the Area of the building and based on the location you can use the average cost of building per m2 in the location eg. within outskirts of Nairobi might be around Kes 35,000 per sq m. multiply this by the floor area you want to extend. But you need to consider several factors too eg...
- What is the current condition of the building?
- Was the building designed to go higher than two floors up?
Trace the original Architectural and structural drawings and get in touch with a consultant for detailed costing and design.

Hope this helps for a start.

Njoki,

To be able to assist you, you should state the total floor area of the house you intend to extend, what kind of specifications you need for the house. again for single rooms it would be the basic finishes. usually when its self build your cost for construction can go as low as 16000/= per sqm
