am also intrested in those figures . i would like to know how much securities traders like those trading forex, bonds get paid ...i hear its a good sum ( Source : Co-op)

well it depends...salo+bonus? some guys make more than many CEOs.....one guy made 30mio in bonuses alone...bonus range varies but the norm is like 1mio....salos per se arent extra ordinary...guy with 1 yr experience can command about 250k odd depending on skill set...no entry level per se because most dealers dont quite start employment as dealers, most find their way into treasury...dunno if that helps

@kizee1...I agree with you salaries arent crazy figures for fixed income dealers...but it also depends on the bank am sure stanchart and barclays are paying very well 250k upwards, problem with this specialised jobs is breaking through its usually a case of musical chairs one day a guy is at equity bamk the next at co-op trust etc plus its high pressured...bonuses are good and there is so much room for cutting deals you will be laughing all the way to the bank literally...

I have never worked in a bank but it is below 50K p.m for tellers....Do you expect people to pay more than 50K for an entry level teller?

@ associate, let me answer you.

Graduate trainees or clerks as they are known in some of these banks form the bulk of the unionisable staff in the industry. Their union BIFU has been pushing very aggresively to get better terms every year. The latest CBA (collective bargaining agreement) was signed last month and it left gross salary at a minimum of around Kes.58,000.

Now the good news is that some banks actually pay higher that this minimum wage.

The bad news is that a good number of the top banks have discovered a loophole that ensures you are not unionisable. Some banks e.g. Equity bank, will simply not allow you to join a union. Some banks will hire you as a management trainee at a lower salary, while others will engage you on contract terms.

Back to your question, below is my list of best employers in the industry for an entry job.

1. National bank
2. Co-op Bank
3. KCB

Kindly allow me to add something.

Majority of the tellers at Equity are not graduates and in all fairness, the salary of Kes.35K they get is more that generous. Actually, most of them are fiercely loyal since they do not have any delusion of getting a better deal elsewhere.

At the bank where I work (NIC ug) the entry level pay is as below:

1. Bank Tellers & operations (25k - 35k)
2. Credit analysts (85k - 100k)
3. Trainee dealers (150k - 175k)
4. Relationship managers (150k)
5. Department head (250k - 300k)
6. Executive Director (1M - 2M)

They pay above average currently due to aggressive poaching and skilled labour scarcity in Uganda!

Newly graduated lawyers doing pupillage earn 40k from the 2 highest paying firms, 20 from another and 15k from another 2 or so. The others range from getting nothing to 20k. The law society has no requirements for this unfortunately, and lawyers have no union.

I know a guy who entered Equity Bank at 800k per month.... then he resigned 6 months later due to poor working conditions.

he lied to you and you swallowed. He was probably making 80k

I think he talking about former Equity CFO
