Picked this from an old report.

The G-8 Summit in Kananaskis in June pledged $6 billion a year in "aid" to Africa by 2006. The low figure caused Phil Twyford of Oxfam to say: "We're extremely disappointed by this wasted opportunity. They're offering peanuts to Africa--and recycled peanuts at that."

In 1999, debt service payments from Africa, the poorest region in the world, to rich Western countries totalled $35.7 billion. Total African debt stands at a crippling $300 billion.

According to The Guardian (U.K.), "African leaders invited to the G-8 gathering in Kananaskis expressed deep disappointment that the plan did nothing to open Western markets, cancel debts of the poorest countries, or provide the financial aid needed to meet the UN's targets for tackling global poverty by 2015."

Behind the shameful peanut-throwing lurks a deadly Western policy towards Africa. The U.S. government, which dominates the G-8, has--through the Pentagon, the CIA, the World Bank and the IMF--systematically demolished African economies, health and education sectors, and fuelled 11 wars on the continent with arms transfers and military training.

This imperial strategy has killed more than four million Africans and allowed the U.S. and the West to grab Africa's abundant natural riches cheaply. Nearly 80% of the strategic minerals the U.S. requires are found in Africa, including 90% of the world's cobalt, 90% of the platinum, 40% of the gold, 98% of the chromium, 64% of the manganese, and one-third of the uranium. These minerals are needed to make jet engines, cars, missiles, electronic components, iron and steel.

Africa also accounts for 18% of U.S. oil imports, compared to 25% from the Persian Gulf, with Nigeria and Angola, respectively, being the fifth and ninth largest exporters to the U.S.

As Kenyan troops push their way into Somalia’s hinterland in pursuit of Al-Shabaab militants, several security analysts and observers allege an unseen hand behind Operation Linda Nchi.

The allegations have been riding on the wave of unconfirmed reports in the early days of the incursion that claimed that unmanned American drones had attacked several targets inside the lawless nation.

The United States is spreading its drone war into East Africa.

The American military's use of drones to attack Al Qaeda and Taliban bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan is well known and controversial. The U.S. military finds the drone attacks an effective way to strike at enemy targets without putting actual pilots or soldiers in danger. But local residents charge that the drones often kill civilians instead of the militants that are targeted.

Now the drone wars are spilling over into the Horn of Africa.

U.S. President Barack Obama's administration is expanding the drone campaign to East Africa. The U.S. military is setting up a “constellation of secret drone bases” that will be used to aggressively target Al Qaeda affiliates in Somalia and Yemen,...

Despite frequent news reports on the drone assassination campaign launched in support of America’s ever-widening undeclared wars and a spate of stories on drone bases in Africa and the Middle East, most of these facilities have remained unnoted, uncounted, and remarkably anonymous -- until now.

Run by the military, the Central Intelligence Agency, and their proxies, these bases -- some little more than desolate airstrips, others sophisticated command and control centers filled with computer screens and high-tech electronic equipment -- are the backbone of a new American robotic way of war. They are also the latest development in a long-evolving saga of American power projection abroad -- in this case, remote-controlled strikes anywhere on the planet with a minimal foreign “footprint” and little accountability.

Using military documents, press accounts and other open source information, an in-depth analysis by AlterNet has identified at least 60 bases integral to U.S. military and CIA drone operations. There may, however, be more, since a cloak of secrecy about drone warfare leaves the full size and scope of these bases distinctly in the shadows.

Haven't watched those video. My internet is acting up.

But Iran is the new Iraq.

The drums of war are already being beaten. There is urgent need to take out the WMD that are in Iraq.

Oops, sorry. Make that Iran.

Snippets from yahoo

On Nov. 9, Reuters reported Obama complaining of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the G-20 summit earlier this month. The president complained, "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him even more often than you," not realizing that his microphone was still turned on, according to the report.

What the president's record is beginning to reveal, in addition to his anti-Israel sentiment is the likely reason he will not release his school records, he is not educated on U.S. nor world history, geography or ethics.
By inference, the man is all that Mr Phantom is not: an untrustworthy radical, divisive, too many enemies, a dictator, and a persistent liar...

Looks like the US is preparing for something.

They've just increased their military presence in Australia.

Quote:
"With my visit to the region, I am making it clear that the United States is stepping up its commitment to the entire Asia-Pacific region,"

more here

They already have a presence in over 150 countries worldwide !

US Active Duty Personnel by country

I wonder who will be invaded first between Syria and Iran Think

I wonder what the endgame for all this military deployment is ....

With all their debt, all this military commitment is definitely not for the benefit of the American people.

So... who benefits ?
