@ Ckaka due to lack of proper info from consultants, kenyans use alot of money on septic tanks thinking that they are storage devices. Septic tanks should be small and only serve curing purposes only.

Houses made from containers can withstand wind speeds of upto 225km/hour....How many brick and mortar houses in Nairobi can withstand half those speedsPray

@ Njunge,talking of container housing,
Container houses cost more per square meter than well-designed brick and mortar houses.
See a container house design here

This house is more expensive than this

Steel and any imported construction material can not compare in cost with locally produced materials. The best cost reduction is achieved using Interlocking stabilized soil blocks on the DIAMOND house designs.

Thank you Wazuans, for this informative contribution. @a4architect where exactly is this house located in Kiserian, would like to visit and have a closer look.

On the same note, any good architects around Rongai and Kiserian anyone would recommend? I will be starting my project(In kiserian in Feb 2012 and would appreciate somebody who works or resides around the area.

I'm looking at the document and wondering what is the final cost, with all the caveats Sad

Price exclusive of VAT
Price ex-Nairobi. Ushago is extra
Price doesn't include foundation, slabs, windows, fixtures, fittings, water, electricals
Price doesn't include labour

What are we buying????

True, these guys appear a bit cagey. But then again, they are only stating what they are selling (providing). I wonder if there are going to be developers specializing in this whole thing from beginning to end. Such are the people who can be expected to give more definitive quotes. The problem is the media sensationalized this whole thing and created the wrong impression that you can get yourself a house in under KES 100,000. Few people must have believe it, of course. And clearly, they were right.

Its called vapourware. Create an impression that you have a panacea to all problems then continually market the delay in releasing details. Finally what comes through falls short of expectations. Microsoft does it all the time.

For those who think you can get a complete house in under 200k, you may have to look elsewhere. Stabilized Soil Blocks may help. GoK is providing this service. I'll be back with more info
