Modem comes with what - 30GB with an expiry of 90 Days? How in Almighty's name does one consume that in 90 days? I hardly clock 500MB in a month.

Claim that data on Orange will be as low as 40 cents per MB:

Over to you Safaricom.

And Orange seems have pulled the rug off Airtel's feet - Airtel says it will launch its 3G network in September.

So far, the way i understand it is like this,

orange/telkom had CDMA, and they launched EVDO on top of the same CDMA technology , and this is what they have been marketing as 3G+,

That's why their 3G+ service is only available in certain few areas even though voice GSM has wider coverage

So, what they been having is 3g+ running on CDMA/EVDO technology and their modems are CDMA/EVDO, Please note that they provide voice on a GSM, so they've always had their data(3G+) and voice technology on different platforms

What they launched jana, i believe was 3G on GSM,

somebody correct me if i've made a mistake,

so, from my understanding, to enjoy the 3G they launched jana, you'll need a new modem , but now you can enjoy faster speeds on your regular GSM phone

PS. so what's the future of CDMA/EVDO in the country, who know's what happened to the other players in that market segment i.e. Popote wireless and flashcom

My head is hung low, and a heavy heart weighs a ton.

How would you feel if you live in Africa, and you knew beyond all doubt, that the strongest animal was no longer the proud Elephant but the Rhinocerous Beetle?

Orange 3G+ is the new king of data - it's faster and cheaper; as for Safaricom, the only thing going right for them is Kenyans4Kenya.

ORANGE

SAFARICOM

I ran these speed tests from Westgate mall where the two have shops opposite each other.

Not all is perfect though, Orange claim to sell their modem with a bundle, which turns out to be false after purchase.
And on Orange there is this issue with Upload speed - very fast for a fact - but a configuration error leaves it in an endless loop, confusing your browser in some cases so keeping the pages loading for ages.
