I'm advised that this is a very important vaccine for children although it's not among the compulsory by the government. Somebody advise on where i can get it at an affordable cost and specifically at how much?

Consult your pediatrician. Should get it when you go for the various visits. Should be around 4 months and a half or thereabouts. The disease is fatal if not attended to in time.

Its a very important vaccine as the disease can be fatal if not attended to on time. Given all my children. Costs approx 5k per jab...three jabs needed.
....above all, to stand.

Hi

Any good hospital and even paediatrician. at Aga Khan , the cost is around 2700 to 3000 per jab. also, the are two kinds - one with fewer strains where the kid receives two jabs and the other with more strains requiring three jabs.

The disease is fatal as in if the kids getting it, you may have to be admitted - cause of diarrhea and vomiting - + care & management but no drug to cure. strongly recommended to receive the jabs

Rotavirus is a virus that is spread by feeding on contaminated feeds this is called faeco-oral route of transmission.
The age group that is most affected is after 6 months when they have stopped breast feeding and are taking other feeds.
The vaccine might be introduced into government schedule in the next few years most probably 2013 but that wont help your kids.
There are 2 types of vaccines a 3 dose and a 2 dose. Effectiveness is more or less the same so the main things to consider is convenience and cost. PS: The 3 dose has 5 strains while the 2 dose has only 1 strain.
Where to get it AAR clinic at williamson house and Nairobi womens hospital I think are the cheapest.
You can also get it from most paediatricians and their prices vary.

This vaccine is not to be given to children older than 8 months. The vaccine has a side effect that transiently increase risk of intestinal obstruction in children predisposed to intestinal obstruction!

I dont think this vaccine is worth the hype every kid is prone to it..its fatal if you dont take action immediately i.e offer enough liquid but as always within 48hrs it will have left the kids system...My kid got it sometime back he was only given an ORS and some antibiotics to prevent any bacterial infection but within 2 days he was fine.

Rotavirus symptoms resembles teething so sometime its hard to deffereciate.
