Uchumi may look like a bad buy, but I am optimistic that it could shock alot of us.

I find that un-neccessary. I think Uchumi will do just fine on its own as it will be on the offensive henceforth.

No value addition to Nakumatt. Wherever Uchumi is, Nakumatt is there in a bigger way so there is nothing Uchumi will bring to the table. It would be of more value to a smaller chain like Naivas who I suspect don't have the financial muscle.
At this point in time South African chains have not mastered Kenyan peculiar habits that saw to it that whoever came from there flopped big time.
American and British chains will have unsustainable overheads so they don't seem to be an option.

On the contrary, in as much as Nakumatt will have a bigger store wherever Uchuni is, it does not have the Uchumi loyalty customers. That is what Uchumi will bring to the table. Nakumatt would gain much more if they took over. However, they should not be allowed to under the Monopolies and STh*** ( I forget) law.
