Wanted: SMTP Server

I want to be able to deliver emails directly from my comp, rather than relying on my web-host.

Does anyone know a good SMTP server?

I have tried the FreeSMTP and it doesn't seem to work - can't detect port 25. Then I tried hMailServer but it looks erratic - sometimes it sends and sometimes it doesn't. Postcasterserve doesn't install properly, so that's also out.

Some one please help.

Try smtp.com.Worked well for me though you gotta pay.If not many emails are being sent you could also try gmail smtp

Use GOOGLE as a free SMTP server.

Settings are as below:

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com
Use Authentication: Yes
Use TLS or SSL: Yes
Port: 465 or 587
User Name: Your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com' e.g. example@gmail.com)
Password: Your Gmail password

From Name: your name or company name or whatever name you choose
From Address: Your Gmail address

It works. I've used it in several Apps.

I'm not sure whether it can send bulk emails e.g. 1000 at a go. Google might consider that spam and deactivate your Gmail account.

Thanks @bird_man; but I want to run my own server on my computer - not sending to some one to deliver for me. Thus the two suggestions don't meet my requirement

Use good old Sendmail. Install it on Ubuntu Server. It's still free, and it's still the best.

I don't want to migrate from windows to Ubuntu... Is there Sendmail for windows? My search revealed a "fake sendmail for windows"!

If im getting you right, you want your comp to be the e-mail server and you do not want to use an external 'smart host'. Then only way this can happen is if you install a full e-mail server on your machine e.g mdaemon(cracks easily available) then have your ISP allow your domain xyz.co.ke to send e-mail directly via DNS. I believe the ISP in question has to be the one handling the MX records for your domain for this to happen.

If you ask me @ jgurus suggestion is your solution.

there are a few solutions out there,
1 - Sendmail for windows (http://glob.com.au/sendmail/) i have used that with Bugzilla on windows.
2- use lumisoft's offering (its an old project but i also used it for sometime) http://www.lumisoft.ee/l...x_eng.aspx?type=download
