Will they still order E-jets or the Bombardier Q400 given the success Jambo Jet has been having with them? Or perhaps 737's?

Must be the 737Max, E190-E2 (NEW E190), or even Bombadier C series and Ofcourse more B787s.

The Embraer has been a good work horse within Africa but it cannot efficiently effect long hauls hence some new 787 will be part of the mix especially for USA

@ArrestedDev any clue where this report could be found?

5 years old for an E-jet is still young! Just some good maintenance and refurbishing

KQ has been sending back the leased ones at only 8 years old. Many other airlines also lease them especially the narrow body for 8 years. The narrow body are used to run many frequencies and accumulate many flight hours within a short period and hence higher fuel and mantainance costs.

Expect an order soon to be announced.

Can't they get the 8-yr olds at very cheap lease/purchase rates to offset the higher fuel usage and maintenance costs?
Delta had bought some old aircraft (can't remember the model) at a very low price which they refurbished. They used the heck out of them. They were cheap so grounding them when biz was slow wasn't a huge drag.
They also cannibalized some for spares to keep the rest running.

"...the airline looks at the entire cost of jet – the purchase price, the maintenance costs, fuel efficiency and other factors – before making decisions. Often, used aircraft make the most economic sense for the airline."
Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

These articles are dated. With the new efficient jets coming into service - B737 max, Bombadier C series, E2, A320neo, A321LRneo, B787 & A350 there is no need to refurbish old jets anymore.

All the three biggest carriers in the USA have placed orders for these new jets. American Airlines is already receiving deliveries for B737max. Delta placed an order in December 2017 with Airbus.

The more I hear about the possibility of these acquisitions the more I am like a deeper loss is in the horizon.
