Ethiopian govt doesn't put any money into the airline.
Choose routes which are profitable.
Financing is mostly by US Exim Bank and internal finances. Exim Bank guarantees buying of new planes.
Banks which then loan them are JP Morgan, Citibank, Barclays
They have been flying to china since 1973.
Airline is managed by aviation professionals who are young and highly skilled . The ceo started as a ticket cashier/handler.
They have launched their fifth destination and even have a flight to singapore.
