Tanzania has slapped stringent restrictions on all diplomatic, consular missions and international organisations meetings with its officials as well as political leaders in the country, it has emerged.

The government says it will now clear all the planned activities of the foreign missions and international organisations, including who and when they meet leaders of the various political parties.

Also affected include appointments seeking audiences with the political leaders and members of Parliament during the ongoing Bunge sessions in Dodoma, says an official circular issued last week and seen by The Citizen.

The ministry of foreign affairs will be responsible for enforcing the rules that are spelt out in the notice issued to the institutions on January 28.

The move by the same ministry has apparently raffled members of the diplomatic corps, who were reportedly still not sure how to respond.

The circular further directed all members of the diplomatic corps to seek permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, East Africa, Regional and International Co-operation, before traveling upcountry and meeting any local government authorities or grassroot organisations.

From now henceforth, the government will not accept or process matters forwarded or copied to its from the embassies or organisations. The ministry will only accept and process original applications that should not also be copied beforehand to any entities.

“The Ministry is charged with forwarding the same to the relevant authorities and providing feedback. All communication that shall arrive at the Ministry bearing copied notification or that shall be submitted to the Ministry with notification of third party, not channelled through the Ministry as per procedure, shall not be accorded due diligence.’’

I get the impression that most of the bile directed by Magufuli is from Uhuru supporters. Whereas Uhuru promised to clamp down on corruption and has so far only made tepid attempts, Magufuli is showing that fighting corruption in an African country is actually possible. Basically magufuli is making Uhuru and Museveni look bad.

Far from turning Tanzania into another South Africa as some here are claiming, Magufuli is going to take TZ to greater heights. At the very least he is inspiring investor confidence. And that is worth a lot.

Anyone who would even consider a corrupt act in TZ now will think twice, lest he is publicly humiliated.

Whereas the world bank has reduced South Africa's GDP growth projections by from 2.2% to 1.2, they have increased Tanzania's GDP growth projects to 7.2% from 7%

So while many here wish ill will on Magufuli, world bank experts are already projecting great things for TZ due to Magufuli.

I hope Kenyans pay close attention. Here is a president actually delivering on election promises. And Tanzanians are better off for it.

I do not get this excuse about our katiba preventing the president from fighting corruption or waste. What specific article of the katiba prevents him from ordering an inquiry then firing corrupt officials?

Take for example the case of commissioners being paid Ksh 35m which is higher than what president Obama makes. Sarah Serem who is in charge of salaries claims she was not told about it. Which means there must have been a backroom deals. Why does'nt the president address this by ordering an inquiry and using the results of the inquiry to fire people or force them to step down.

Why for example can't the government find out who benefited from Waiguru's ksh 450,000 condom dispenser. whichever contractor benefited can be banned from doing business with gava. Whomever signed this deal should be fired with cause.

The gava is wasting so much money on wages and on corrupt deals. This is money that can be used to add more streetlights or even security cameras to prevent you from being mugged. Or it can be used to put more equipment in Kenyan hospitals or even build wider roads to alleviate traffic. you name it.

Kenyans penchant for tribal sycophancy and excusing corruption and waste is why you are constantly stuck in traffic, are being mugged and cannot get decent treatment medical treatment in Kenya.

All the good doctors have gone to Botswana, New Zealand and elsewhere because gava would rather pay Ksh 35m to commissioners who negotiate backroom deals instead of doctors who can save lives.
