Some of the greatest saints in the church are Africans such as the 4th Centuary St Augustine of Hippo (Libya) and St Attanasius of Alexandaria http://www.catholic.org/saints/black.php?page=1.

You must have heard of the Martyrs of Uganda led by the leader St Charles Lwanga - a group of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic converts converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of Uganda, who were executed between November 1885 and January 1887 the youngest only a boy - St Kizito.

From the 1930s, we have St Bakita, a Sudanese slave. I am sure there will be many other Africans who will be canonized in future.

Why were the saints, saints? Because they were cheerful when it was difficult to be cheerful, patient when it was difficult to be patient; and because they pushed on when they wanted to stand still, and kept silent when they wanted to talk, and were agreeable when they wanted to be disagreeable. That was all. It was quite simple and always will be. 

You see people see opportunity in their own ways.Tell someone who might not have eaten for several nights that the steel bars are just for protecting a plaque, the person sees food in the steel bars. They are the same people who steal manhole covers in Nairobi. Both are crimes.
