Two and a half billion barrels is a lot of oil, and if you are a country of 40 million people and have an annual GDP of only $31.41 billion, that amount of oil has the power to change history.

But Kenya doesn't just have 2.5 billion barrels of oil. Nobody knows for sure how much oil there is in Kenya, but U.S. government geologists estimate the East Africa Rift contains 72 billion barrels of untapped crude.

So, know that this is not just a small game and position yourselves smile

FAR’s A$15M fund raising for East African oil and gas exploration draws strong interest.

FAR Limited (ASX: FAR) is confident of its plans to raise up to A$15 million to fund its oil and gas exploration program offshore Kenya.

The company said it had received offers for a multiple of the funds it is looking to raise through a placement of 280 million shares priced at A$0.043 each and a A$3 million share purchase plan to existing shareholders.

FAR said the placement will allow it to maintain its equity interest in Block L6 and L9, which are close to a string of recent major offshore gas discoveries.

A $12 year-end close here would be aweshome.
Also look out for Africa Mining and Exploration-its having a temporary blip due to the coup in Mali. Ideal buying time.
Outside Africa, try Solomon Gold

British oil company,Ophir Energy Plc has raised 20 billion shillings to drill oil in Kenya and Tanzania after Tullow oil and Africa oil discovered high quality oil in Kenya’s Turkana County.

Africa-focused oil and gas firm Ophir Energy Plc plans to acquire more oil exploration blocks in Kenya which now has become a hotbed for oil exploration.

@hisah, @mainat and other experts what do you think is the gravity of political risks facing Africa Oil in the wake of the current negative publicity on windfall profits that have dominated newspaper headlines? Could they fall victim to populist government decisions like Githae threatened recently?

@RVP - As long as EA is sitting on a lake of hydrocarbons (gas & oil) it would be foolish to have bad politics supported by anyone. The potential investment return is far much greater than warmongering. Why is KDF in somaliland? Sudan & S. Sudan current tension will as well be nipped asap else Sudan will face econ sanctions. And without oil, they'd sink in a few months under tough sanctions.

The estimated 72 billion barrels is an investment better managed by shared responsibility rather than senseless politics. All involved stand to benefit so I don't see EA going the Nigeria or Angola way.

We need to fix our security asap. We cannot get it right if Al shabaab strike at will and the threat of sabotage by foreign interests is high, very high. The West's clout on Kenya's economic and diplomatic direction will wane and hence they may tend to destabilize nairobi in all manner of ways. Our neighbours will find it more difficult to catchup once the oil find triggers other economic boom. This may be a panacea for economic sabotage and espionage prompting conflict.

A portion of the acreage licensed to Bahari is adjacent to Anadarko’s Area 1 and ENI’s Area 4 in Mozambique; both have seen 15 or more trillion cubic feet in discoveries on their blocks

I saw this and was impressed. However, i think they will eventually sell to the giants after oil finds are discovered near the area.
Remember oil is found in certain geological places
