He grabbed public and private land to put up schools using public funds and staffed the schools with govt teachers then later claimed the schools were private. eg Kabarak, Sacho, sunshine etc. The schools should be returned to the tax payer.

Martyr syndrome

Kenya's economy was already in decline long before the IMF structural adjustment programs.

BBC did a documentary about Kenya in 1982. Its available on youtube. It says clearly that by 1982 Kenya was already facing rising unemployment and increasing poverty. A result of massive corruption. In the documentary, Oginga Odinga is heard saying precisely that. But as you well know, Oginga was ostracized by the Kenyatta govt and subsequently the Moi govt both of whom dismissed him as an enemy of the people.

IMF may have played a role but our leaders and the people who support them are the primary culprits. IMF is only a secondary perhaps even tertiary culprit.

Again Kenya's economy has been in decline for decades and only now is it really starting to bite. Others saw it coming decades ago.

Anybody who was mature enough in that error to understand issues cannot comprehend what people are talking now. It was pathetic for 24 years. RIP
