Safaricom has evacuated some of its employees from Ethiopia because of armed conflict and civil unrest in what could disrupt the firm’s operations in the populous nation.

Safaricom, whose consortium aims to start operations in Ethiopia next year, got the employees out of the country on Wednesday and Friday.

USG is also delaying the release of USD 500 million to Safcom because of that whole mess. Things are thick and it keeps getting worse.

Betting is now the second-largest business line by revenue under M-Pesa’s payments and betting unit after consumer-to-business (C2B), which generated sales of Sh5.1 billion in the six months to September.

Kenyans place Sh83.2bn M-Pesa bets in six months

If only that same enthusiasm by the youth could be carried across into the NSE we would have a more vibrant capital market

There is no inside information, everything is in the public domain. After Safaricom entered the Ethiopian market, civil strife happened.
