Tanzanian security forces have arrested 10 suspected members of the Somali militant group al Shabaab in a raid on a mosque and another was lynched by a mob, police said on Wednesday.

Officials said Tanzania was on high alert for al Shabaab attacks after the group claimed an attack on a university in neighbouring Kenya this month that killed 148 people.

Police Commissioner Paul Chagonja told Reuters the suspected members of the al Qaeda-linked group had been arrested on Tuesday night in Kilombero district, Morogoro region, about 200 km (125 miles) east of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

Morogoro regional police chief, Leonard Paul Lwabuzala, said in a statement that one member of the group was lynched by a mob as he was pursued by the police.

"The suspects arrested at a mosque were found in possession of 30 sticks of explosives, detonating CORD, a black flag, military uniforms, masks and swords," Lwabuzala said.

Tanzania has been spared the level of assaults by al Shabaab militants seen in Kenya although there have been sporadic attacks on tourists.

Unlike Kenya, Tanzania, which is roughly evenly split between Christians and Muslims, has not sent troops to Somalia and it does not share a border with the Horn ofAfrica nation.

Al Shabaab has said it has targeted Kenya to punish the country for sending troops to Somalia where they have battled the militants as part of an African Union peacekeeping force.

It said other contributing African nations could also be targeted.

Church ministers in Mombasa are scared of wearing religious garments for fear of being attacked by radicalised Muslim youths.

The clerics said they no longer wear collars, crosses and robes, during a meeting with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

A pastor from Kisauni recounted how a group of youths threatened him as he walked in the streets, saying they wanted his head.

“We are scared,” he told Mr Joho. The preacher asked the governor to tell Muslim youth to stop calling Christians pagans.

I was just thinking... what happened to the Muslim students whose lives were spared? Why haven't they come forward and said something that might give us deeper insight into what happened on April 2nd? Or at least offer condolences and comfort to a grieving nation. We have heard extensively from media reports of the surviving Christians but nada from the Muslims. If truly they cared about their fellow classmates given that they had an upper hand with the killers, at least they could've tried to negotiate on behalf of the Christians. In that case, is it justified to call them accomplices to murder??

We keep hearing that there are two types of Muslims: a few radicals and the majority moderates who are peaceful. In a religious that claims to have 1.8 billion adherents, of which approx 10-30% are radicalized, we're talking anywhere from 180-540 million radical Muslims, not a tiny minority at all!!

In Nazi Germany, only a "tiny minority" committed heinous crimes, the moderate majority were irrelevant. Same with Islam, the moderate majority are irrelevant at best and accomplices at worst. In recent times, we have seen the prosecution of people who once held auxiliary positions during the Nazi reign of terror. They were not directly involved with the killings, but since they stood by and did nothing to stop the crimes, they are paying the price in jail.

Actually, the internet has offered an avenue for feeding the 'structural hunger' of our otherwise boring and perhaps desperate lives.

I'd say it's not bad at all, but now we can comfortably know that the most important thing is the ability to see our own mindsets and mind prints and to be able to connect with other's optimally.

Quote:
