I shake my head when some 'right' thinking niggas defend the laptop project as a priority for this country, please guys you can only suck up as much......don't lose your head and faculties while at it.......SORRY.

This does not mean you should use such language with those you differ with.
You sound like a person looking down on those you differ with.

53b is enough to revamp agriculture or ensure each county gets a health centre worth 1b.No right thinking kenyan should support such a white elephant apart from Uhuruto and his ilk.

The billions that the US spends to send just one shuttle into space are enough to provide housing and Medicare to millions of poor Americans. Does this mean Obama has his priorities wrong?

good point, plus if well implemented it might actually save some cash - the information the kids can get exposed to via electronic devices is way more than the government of local communities can achieve in trying to build more classrooms and libraries, while efforts should still continue in improving latter - laptops to kids if well implemented will have a bigger positive impact on the country

Facade...

I had to check the meaning of the word facade first, din't know the meaning.

As a Nairobi resident, am asking myself why people are opposing giving laptops to kids at Nairobi primary, Buruburu primary, Moi avenue primary, Lavington primary, Westlands primary, kasarani primary, Umoja primary, kibera Olympic, langata primary, Karen C primary and other govt schools. After all most private schools in nairobi, including the one my kids attend, have computer classes starting class one. Or you are worried that your watchmens' children, who go to govt schools, will be using laptops like your kids. I won't talk about rural counties but if governors can afford 53m for entertainment, then surely they can afford to build a few classes.
Also note that the age of desktops is gone, just like the one of landlines.

what is the priority? building classrooms or buying laptops for kids in govt schools? and what about the renumeration for the teachers in those schools? are all other facilities catered for?

what is going to give these kids a better chance at education collectively? i doubt that it is buying laptops.....my raia cents (since 16%vat would apply if it was my 2 cents)

As Nairobians, do we really need to build more classes at Moi avenue primary, Garden estate primary, Kangemi primary, Kayole primary, kileleshwa primary etc? I think the ones we have are sufficient.

classrooms dont make an education, that is why i mentioned other facilities and teachers pay...if all these are catered for, then we talk technological advancement...

What facilities? Maybe teacher salaries. Surely the kids in the schools mentioned above don't need laboratories or boarding facilities . I believe they already have toilets and libraries, play grounds and games equipment. Also note that all schools receive alot of money each year under the free primary education program to buy books and other learning materials.

I recently visited my former primary school in shags and they are now connected to power under the rural electrification program. The HM told me he's receiving alot of money each year under the free primary education program (i think 1k per pupil per year) for books etc.

if tax is used for laptops, luxurious jets with ladies, building kibaki a home and office and other wasteful habits while others are dying and sharing beds in hospitals then i will always ensure when i import cargo it is on transit and it later finds its way into kenya and i evade taxes or i underdeclare the goods as why pay taxes to fund luxurious lifestyles!!!!

@jaggernaut, so are you saying we need to look at the schools subjectively? cos clearly some schools have those facilities whilst others dont...

@nakujua, whose pay is enough? smile

support to the education should be balanced and include appropriate renumeration for teachers as well innovative use of technology. i worry that this laptop business is being seen by some as a panacea yet it may end up having a placebo effect

Inferiority complex just like superiority complex is a disease sorry if I suffer from one, I maintain it is sick to support this white elephant is the right priority in the current kenyan economic situation..........I forget it's the easiest way to get hands into the cookie jar!!!!......@githundi pole if you feel intimidated by the chief, it's the only way to survive in an intimidating environment.

Of course I have seen on TV kids learning under trees. Maybe the headteachers and MPs should explain to us what they do with the millions given to them each year under free primary education and CDF respectively. Note that these funds are given to all Kenyans without discrimination.
