IMHO China managed to contain the virus internally by its strong arm tactics as early as February 2020. All movement was restricted and controlled at various levels where testing and certification happened such that for one to reach the international airport it was almost certain he or she was virus free. Towards end of February the spread had peaked and started to decline sharply. However the epicenter was fast moving to Italia....but we kept on looking at the total number of infections and not the rate of increase of new cases hence missed the critical hint as exemplified by the complaints about China Southern Airlines. If we thought the disease could only arrive from China persons from China were already arriving anyway through Ethiopian and middle east carriers.
As @ Masukuma says the data was not utilized to inform decision. NB WHO started publishing the daily surveillance data in January 2020. Today in the spirit of supporting SMEs they have banned mitumba again against scientific data on virus survival and propagation.

I saw this and I was facepalming (before I realised I was not supposed to touch my face!!)
Come on guys... I have beef with Mitumba for other reasons but let's not act in Hysteria!! Let's assume someone died today of Corona.. how long will it take for them to pack and sell , then ship the clothes? then get them here to Gikomba, unpack and sell, then you wear it (assume without washing) - that will be what 2-3 months? this virus survives longest what - couple of days outside the body on metal surfaces. less than a week!! it's hysteria!!

I have a feeling most people are yet to grasp BASICS! How does the disease manifest itself?
Why are we washing hands?

and those are the people making key decisions in this pandemic Sad

I think the default position in Kenya is to complain. Then pray then complain again.

It is important to stop night traffic coz it's meant to slow down it's spread. Not to cure.

It's important to limit Mitumba simply because those mitumba people can be super spreaders.

It's important to limit matatu users again to reduce the spread.

It's not an issue to do with curing Covid.

This nonchalant complaints from Kenyans show a basic lack of understanding of your environment. You don't seem to understand the dangers you are in.

But I'll give you 2 hours to rethink your behavior and support what the gov't is trying to do here.

And stop complaining all the time.

First understand that Kilifi guy has infected already 7 known people in 7 days.

Anyway, watch these two documentaries when you are feeling super disappointed that the gov't doesn't care about people who earn less than 100 bob a day.

Video 1: Sars

Video 2: Ebola = If this one doesn't wake you up from your slumber, nothing will.

Let the doctors do their work. You stay at home. If the poor people think $1 is more important than their health, who I'm I to complain. As long as they keep away from me.

Americans always get the seasonal flu every year Nov - Feb

Then in the summer months the West Nile virus spreads (mosquito caused - basically just like malaria but worse)

Now those who are catching covid19 are saying this is something else, the flu + Pneumonia (the lungs secrete excess mucus and pus such that you cant breath)

You can recover from it. The problem is if so many people are infected such that the capacity of the hospitals are depleted then many will die.

That's why early detection and slowing the spread is important.

Its not a death sentence

Don't forget you are talking to people who fall for 'get rich quick schemes'. Prayers, Tithes, Quails etc. So they are now looking for a single move that will stop the spread of the virus. same guys who believe in burning witches!
They don't know the symptoms of the disease but want lockdown to stop it.

Love, is allowing others to be wrong and still be just and benevolent. Love, is light, and knows neither death nor fear. So I see no need for argumenta ad hominem and some hasty generalization. What we have here is a problem with constraints we may like or not like. But constraints nonetheless.

But I have found myself in contentions that were ill designed, and typically, even otherwise reasonable persons end up hurling insults and dehumanizing others. By the way alma, masukuma and c. the BASICS you seem to have forgotten is the importance of the normal curve, even in matters of wealth distribution, or even intelligence. Each human domain is assumed to be described by this curve. Cases away from the 95% zone are met with complaints most of the time. 95% of people are likely to be less well informed about a subject of study even in a sub-domain.

A person can and will wash hands because it's the new mean behavior. Some people may not need the explanations you seem to cherish so much.

My suspicion is that we belong to connected normals and flattening one normal has an effect on other normals. So if you want collective behavior on one normal, be prepared for collective action on all subsystems. Just try to be calm and ask the right questions and you'll find reasoning is not as difficult as you may be experiencing it.
