Unless Munya's strategy of dividing subtribes works, it may not amount to much for NASA. NASA should not be cheated to assume Munya voters = NASA voters. The Aug governor outcome in Meru was based on competition among sub-tribes. It did not work effectively for Munya since the Imenti had more registered voters than Tigania and Igembe, combined. His strategy was of him being a warrior who was going to battle the others to bring home the win. The "others" felt they needed to respond and voted overwhelmingly as a block. A different thing occurred with women rep. The jubilee candidate there lost traction when she told women that the cabbages and potatoes donated by the competitor were to make them "majimaji." This was why his partners dropped the tripartite campaign, dropping the women rep even in posters on the excuse that the women rep campaigns had become too hot for them.

On president, Meru Nasarites are quite vocal, but they are seriously outnumbered. Another issue is that most of Meru Nasarites are the middle class who are likely to be registered in Kajiado, Nairobi, Kiambu etc. Those registered in Meru are mainly "watu wa Nairobi" or the "elite" who are generally considered out of touch with the grassroots. The grassroot guys like humilating these other guys. One MCA was felled when "watu wa nairobi" started campaigning for him, akaambiwa watu wao hao wampigie kura.

NASA can however make a dent in Meru if they engage grassroot mobilizers. They should forget the elite who have always campaigned for them and do serious ground work to counter the "Mount Kenya Mafia" characterisation. The grassroot guys are the guys who can speak to the people in a language closer to their hearts and allay fears of marginalization in a NASA government. NASA can use Munya's money (he now has money compared to 2013 when he was a Kiraitu protégé) to recruit these grassroot campaigners. But, if they go to Meru with a "thieves" rhetoric that Munya is advancing, I do not see any hope.

I predict voter turnout will be not more than 12M

Interesting observation here,it is now official the elections will be held on 17th October, 2017.

Based on the voter turn out on phase I of the 2017 elections, and an analysis of some counties, there are some patterns which may be interesting to see if the voters may change their minds from the last time.

The combination of the coast votes for Rao i.e. Taita, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu & Tana River were 801,355 and UK 288,713 such counties are comparable with Meru, Tharaka Nithi, & Embu where they each got 83,908 and 878,365. This is a combined total of 885,263 and 1,424,633 for Rao & Uhuru.

The next analysis is the strong holds of the two leaders where Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori,& Kisumu yielded 1,482,032 and 57,903 while the two counties of Kiambu and Murang'a yielded 78,310 and 1,411,658 respectively. This again offers a combined total of 1,560,342 and 1,469,561 each.

The bastions of Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, & Bungoma gave Rao 1,194,994 and UK 244,383. Similar counties of Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Laikipia, & Nyandarua voted 31,013 and 1,149,750. The above gave totals of 1,226,007 and 1,394,133.

Counties of Makueni, Kitui, & Machakos voted for Rao and UK as 969,573 & 175,189 whereas the counties of Nakuru, Nandi & Kericho were 165,499 & 1,157,040. Totals for the two amounted to 1,135,072 and 1,332,229

The other counties considered as highly volatile in terms of changing their voting patterns include Nyamira, Kisii & Trans Nzoia which gave Rao 454,787 and UK 392,647 votes.

Counties whose known voting pattern and have been left out include Bomet, Baringo, Uasin Gishu & Elgeyo Marakwet which gave Rao 139,347 and UK 797,362.

Other counties may be considered swing as the duo some how shared the spoils. From the foregoing, NASA has to really work hard to ensure they carry the day as Raila commands 5,400,812 while UK has 6,810,565. This represents approximately 79% of the 15m plus votes as per phase one.

I like your assessment. The Imenti vs Tigani/Igembe divide is real.

The southern Ameru are also not in the mix

One of the trickiest things for Nasa is how to handle governors who are Jubilee leaning

Take the case of Meru. Kiraitu and his Imenti base know that if Uhuru loses and Munya has a petition that overturns Meru governor polls, Munya will just be referring to the Presidential results 'theft' and how it was turned round in the rerun

Hence I expect governors with strong opponents still claiming fraud to campaign bigly for the incumbent.

A piece of advice here, i come from the greater meru, before 8817 we were treated to theatrics that Kindiki junior will convert 35% of votes to NASA, the tally remained as it were in 2013 meaning NASA investment paid ZERO dividends, the same case will happen to Munya. I wont ask anyone to take this to the bank since they might take it to equity and the loan will never see the light

Perhaps, but If he has burned all the cash he had accumulated (auditor's reports have always had interesting stuff on Meru county) on campaigns, then NASA should abandon him. My theory is that a poor Munya has no value for NASA. He is arrogant and his history with Kiraitu makes him a liability for the base that NASA can mobilise using him. The widespread view in Munya's core base is that they collaborated with Kiraitu to rob Kilemi, the base's favored son, victory in 2013. I know Kilemi had negligible votes in 2017, but this, in my view, was largely due to intense sub-tribe competition that led to intense lobbying not to split votes - Even Gatobu, the young mp, dropped out last minute. I do not think Nasa are that incompetent to be saddled with a poor Munya as a "principal".
