If this is too complex 4 you spare us the ignorance What does it matter where I live? Christopher Muchiri, You have been insinuating that there is a force unconnected to Al Shabaab that is responsible for terror attacks since last week, I have challenged you severally to be the patriot you claim to be and report at the nearest police station. Of course you have not because you are just an apologist trying to deflect attention from a government that is fumbling, befuddled and failing in its core mandate. Last I checked Kenya has the NIS......what are their reports on the same? ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

Seeing as it were that you are master of geopolitics, and I having religiously read your posts on the same on Wazua for quite sometime, I should have picked a few pointers from you. But what do I get? Drivel! That is all it is that your poison pen is spewing. So let me summarise it for you; 1. We let terrorists into our country because we are corrupt 2. We are corrupt because the tone at the top sets the stage for corruption 3. We reset relations with our global partners because the West refused to tolerate our corruption while China did 4. We butcher our wildlife and the government looks away because we can pay KWS officers to stay silent 5. Because our wildlife stock dwindled, tourists started staying away and tourist numbers declined by 15% in 2013. 6. Because tourist numbers fell, revenue also fell and we increased park fees by imposing VAT on park fees. 7. Thus our tourism sector got caught in a vicious cycle with tourism numbers falling and Tanzania benefiting from our folly. 8. Because of 1 to 4 above, poaching and drug trade, terrorists can get all the funding they need Now, those are facts that you can take to the casino. And before you come back here and start posting China this China that, I don't believe our country should rely on any external partner whether the IMF, China or even the West. Do you know that at least 15% of the Sh 35 billion (from Kenyan tax payers sweat) used to build the Thika Superhighway probably went into private pockets?

You would think Kenya is the richest country in all of Africa.
Who is doing Ethiopia's projects? How about Angola? Has Britain sabotaged them?
We, Kenyans are to blame for the mess we are in. Tribalism and corruption keeps all crap afloat in this country.
No amount of blaming the West will change the reality on the ground. We sold citizenship, at a fee we allow questionable characters to live freely with impunity [the likes of Arturs], criminals go to bed with the security personnel and when shit hits the fan, all we cry is SABOTAGE!
Until the day we'll be a tad ethical in our conduct and put the country before self,we will keep on scraping the barrel bottom.
Ignoring facts doesn't change them.

Is it not western banks using western ghost companies.... The no. 2 market for ivory is ....... USA, they will never address the issue 1. Of course the West is also corrupt but there are the likes of Madoff in jail serving lengthy sentences to prove that they try to fight it. Just because the West is corrupt doesn't excuse us from calling for higher standards from our own. Corruption in Kenya hurts Wanjiku more than it hurts Joe Common in the US of A. 2. Your post on Angola and Ethiopia makes mockery of your argument that our economy is being sabotaged by Britain. Our problems have little to do with geopolitics except in that our leaders tell us that we are facing East because the China wont ask us about our corruption. And our intellectuals are saying yes to the East. So we the holloi polloi join in this chorus confirming that we have given our leaders and political rent seekers a blank cheque to eat the fat of the land from our coffers. There is no other reason why we would applaud and defend the China contracts axis with such gusto. You are probably right that colonialism is a factor but only in that what we learnt from the colonialists is to take and take and take rather than grow, nurture, take a long term view to the harvest, after all our average life expectancy is probably no more than the digits that form the interest rate that either China or the West will charge us on loans. We learnt and perfected how to colonise our brethren condemning them to die of malaria and shrapnel from grenades-causes that are easily preventable. When we couldn't arrest them terrorists, we reprised the tactics of Patrick Renison and unleashed our very own 'Operation Anvil' in 2014. Only this time we targeted the Somalis. Finally, Weep not that Katama Mkangi is dead for Dr Ali Mazrui, Professor Peter Kagwanja, Ugandan Prof Mahmood Mamdani and probably Mkangi's son, Dr Bobby Mkangi are probably more tuned to geopolitics than Katama ever was.

accelriskconsult wrote:whiteowl wrote:My observation is that Britain & the rest of the Western powers likes championing projects centered around democracy n good governance. On face value they are well intended but my biggest concern is how to quantify them. China on the other hand is more infrastructure oriented with way less preconditions. With this sabotage issue, Britain is acting like a frog that prevents a cow from drinking water. They're not funding vision 2030 mega projects yet acting jilted when other countries offer us their money. ps. I've no political inclinations. For the umpteenth time, I will ask for prove that the West is sabotaging Kenya's economy. How do you expect tourists and foreign investors to trust the government and come over to Kenya when the messages the government and its sycophants are sending across are as follows; 1. The UK and US are jealous of the relationship between Kenya and China 2. The West is responsible for terror attacks 3. The opposition is responsible for terror attacks 4. The Al Shabaab is attacking us but we are winning the war on terror The inconsistent messages are interpreted to mean that; a) the government and its sycophants do not know who the true enemy is and therefore cannot be possibly expected to protect any would be visitors b) the government is seeking cheap sympathy instead of delivering public goods such as food and security. Even before grenades started exploding every where and scaring tourists away, the government had already introduced VAT on park fees and its top honchos appeared to be protecting poachers. Now that is evidence of economic sabotage- by the government! The only evidence you'll ever get of economic sabotage is lost jobs/income and economic slowdown. As for the guys pulling the strings, you can't pin anything substantial on them. This however doesn't mean insecurity/terrorism isn't a challenge. It is a big challenge on whichever side of the political/economic divide one might be. Also the economic sabotage isn't a blanket cause for all our economic/security woes. There are lots of facets coz they're complex issues.
