Stolen.. Analysis of Shackles of Doom: By Geoffrey Wainaina
I'm of the opinion that the play Shackles of doom was more negative than positive. I'm also of the opinion that the play was highly tribalistic, offensive and full of negative stereotyping. But I do agree with the Court's that banning the play at the National level was counterproductive. I believe the play made it through the Zonals, Districts and Provincials due to Playing in the ethnic advantage fields- That's where the problem was borne..
The proponents of the play have argued that its creative art, that its the reality in our society bla bla bla. - UTTER BALONEY!
You don't kill the ethnic problem in our country with being more ethnic, you don't invoke creativity of Students where an ODM politician was the one behind the play.
But I'm more concerned about the young kids who did the play, the young kids who watched the play and the young kids who believed the play. The kids of tomorrow generation.
***Now the kids have a reason and excuse to give if they do not make it in life- Its because of Kikuyu's.
*** Now the Kids have someone ( a tribe) to blame if they become poor- Its the Kikuyus.
***Now the kids will take over where their dads left with the negative stereotypes of vilifying the Kikuyu community, endless whining and calling them thieves thanks to the controversial play.
In the meantime Kamau the Hawker is making a kill by selling copies of the Controversial play to unshackle himself from the Chains of poverty. By the time we are through debating this, Kamau will have acquired himself a plot from the proceeds of a play that vilified and stereotyped his community- and yes you who watched shackles of doom and is still shackled by poverty will call him a thief ......... and life will go on!
