Also trying to figure out what it was that was so bad about gadaffi. From my little reading so far i have learnt:
1. Anyone who tried to form a political party in libya was executed. Executions and mutilations were done in public idi amin style

2. He supported dictators financially eg. Amin

3. He spread hatred against a particular community in libya known as the berbers and even made it illegal for them to use their language.
4. Any form of political dissent would be crushed violently. He would even hunt them down abroad and have them killed

Thank you.

You forgot to add that he'd stashed abroad USD 200 Billion for his own personal consumption(last i checked the richest man in the world was hovering around USD 55Billion.

Trouble with Gaddafi discussions is that people want to be in either extreme: those who feel he was from hell and those who feel he was a hero and a matyr.

Now Gaddafi was no angel. He must have been mad if you ask me but any sane person will see hi s clear strong points.

Fighting for better fuel prices, fighting for Arab Unity and later African unity, assisting African nationalist movements and improving lives of his people is big plus for him.

But supporting terror and dictators like Amin, being a heavy handed leader who was more often than not very erratic and unpredictable was his downside.

But I stand on my earlier opinion: NATO should have kept off Libya.

I may be wrong but isn't DRC the richest country in Africa resource-wise? What did Mobutu do to help Zaire apart from steal and leave his people poorer than most of the rest of the continent?

Can you imagine how life would have been in Kenya if Moi had just been a Gaddafi in development?

Let's be fair when we discuss things here, this is not debate club where you have to take one side and make sure you win!

lol you are not getting my point.see ,the population density of drc and compare it with libyas. 24:3 pax per square km.it is easier to loot and still provide basic amenities for 3 pax per sq km than doing so for 23 pax or 53 pax per sq km.
though I must admit that some human beings are just animals, dictator gaddafi scores better than dictator animal mobutu on development.while strongman moi beats them all on democrazy front.none is
my hero.all are a good riddance to me.

This could very well have been the real reason for the invasion.
