What bold step?

Possibly continuing flights into affected regions despite the ebola outbreak. Corporate greed at its best

Can KQ afford suspending west africa's lucrative trips in the midst of a tourism slump? Money got no morals. High risk move and if the bet goes against them...

KQ cant afford this travel ban. Mr market will not like this ban...

According to KQ, West Africa contributes less than a quarter of total revenue. OK, lets just say, 20%.

Nigeria and Ghana route still remain. So cancelled destinations/routes may be contributing less than 7% of total revenue.

7% is no where insignificant for a loss making firm.

@dunkang 7% of 100B translates to 7B which is not small. The macro-environment is getting more unfriendly. The problem is that a disappointed frequent passenger may never come back. Govt. bail, that's what I see.

Why are they scrapping the destinations? I thought these were core destinations. Will they get more for the leases than their payments?

I am glad I de-planed (at a loss) and didn't board again despite the temptation. It's just a matter of time [if what @maka says is true] that it will drop to below 10.

Naikuni came to KQ when the price was around 8/- and will leave when the price will be probably be around 8/-.

I thank God for the significant holding of KLM & GoK.. May the market open and reveal the real floor of KQ share. Fingers crossed, ready for the dive

The way it was explained to me...a new route is likely to be profitable after 6 months, but remember there needs to be monetary input from day 1,new staff, crew costs, accomodation, overflight charges etc profitability on that route is currently based on assumptions they don't want to use money they don't have...
On time performance compared to same time period last year is appaling, they are set to focus more on current routes and increase efficiency...

And now COFEK wants KQ to suspend ALL flights to West Africa. They are like dour crabs pulling down those trying to escape the fisherman's bucket... @obiero should have a chat with them to find out why the hate.
