Propaganda - Edward Bernays(1928) wrote:

THE conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.

We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society.

Our invisible governors are, in many cases, unaware of the identity of their fellow members in the inner cabinet.

They govern us by their qualities of natural leadership, their ability to supply needed ideas and by their key position in the social structure. Whatever attitude one chooses to take toward this condition, it remains a fact that in almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons—a trifling fraction of our hundred and twenty million—who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world.

'Logical result'

Consistent. Logical. Believable.

Is it logical to assume that a man who writes a book on propaganda will utilize propaganda?

Argh!

Like I lie all the time. So I'm lying now?

Discombobulation!

Laugh
Laugh
Laugh

Sigh.

Laughing out loudly

Who said democracy is America? There is no democracy there, anyway.

At least democracy is not the definition of human relations. There can be no 'democracy' without inhuman states and corporate business. It is just the way it is.

Nothing is the way it is, everything is the way we make them.

Everything is the way it is because everything is the way we make them.

Yes. And we make them as we make ourselves.

Symbols, manipulation and propaganda are part and parcel of all bodies politic regardless of form of government. These are tools deviced by humans for government for certain conditions.

These conditions can be changed. And are changing even now.

So the question to me is, what tools are we developing for the times which conspiracy theories are harder to sustain? Times when self awareness is rising?

Yes the conditions can be changed. The environment is changing but many parties worldwide including businesses, governments, media,NGOs,educational institutions, individuals e.t.c are seeking, developing and utilizing tools for manipulation adapted to the changing environment.

It's part of the system and the citizens themselves participate and benefit from it on a day to day basis. It is a practice that has value and opposition usually arises when the manipulation works against a party's interests.Because of this, there is an incentive in leaving the 'door to manipulation' open.Like @alma once said/wrote,"live by propaganda die by propaganda",because you can't control who enters the door.

There is a part of a human that is open to manipulation and there is a part of a human that is susceptible to using manipulation.Having accepted that,I believe we can achieve different results if we individually and collectively work towards building a society intolerant of manipulation.

Most of the time manipulation is repugnant. At least from my own experience. Yet I am always manipulating others. It's very interesting.

But I also realize that most of my manipulative behavior is unconscious, and when I make conscious choices on my manipulative behavior I can choose for example, a response that will respect your experience and foster mutual growth and enjoyment.

That is, maybe we need to be aware and mindful of our manipulative behavior rather than be intolerant of manipulation.

This probably means that these organizations also can optimize on their goals by changing strategies because we are changing strategies . . .

Membership is open and very open

Those comments about Greece are not a joke. But don't worry, let's start another thread about fixers and counter fixers.

Votes don't count anymore. In a sense this is the heist of the century. Grand theft without 'us' smelling the rat.

One may even be forced to vote and still remain powerless. And coming from the booth you kiss austerity on the lips.

I told you years ago not to bother with these people.

Imagine a person being invited for an interview and not showing up. Would you hire them?

So you are going to wake up in the morning in at 4am to give a guy a job when he's not bothered showing up...

hahahahaha..

Be original. This was no interview, it was just an opportunity for news men to throw big words and bravado around for ratings. Applause serves them right. Now can they tell us how many tuned in and stayed on?
