@2012 CIC Insurance has cover for persons between the ages of 55-75 years. Call Florence Otieno on 0723 947 977. Alternatively, UAP also has a cover for senior citizens called Afya Imara Seniors - Call (020) 2850000. Compare the products and choose the best.

Hi @2012, you can buy cover from Resolution up till age 63 (before 64th Birthday), and AAR up to 60th birthday. UAP also has the Afya Imara Senior but it has lower limits and deductables you need to be aware of. CIC, Faulu & such have restrictions on hospitals.

I have been trying to get info about this NHIF thing but nobody seems to have convincing/concrete info. Does it cover all forms of payments? Is it only on public hospitals? ANybody using it?

If you are a civil servant, then they pay for all forms of ailments under inpatient and outpatient. if you are not, then they just pay for your bed costs which is fixed at Ithink 2k per day

Aha ok. Then there is a misleading advert they have been running with another mama who says all you need is pay 6bob per day and all your medical will be paid.

NHIF is a basic social scheme for in patient cover only. It covers almost all ailments but up to limits. For example, in each hospital there is a limit, a rebate they pay per day. it ranges between 800-2,500. You can get more information from their website http://nhif.or.ke/healthinsurance/

The civil servant NHIF outpatient cover has been significantly mismanaged by NHIF themselves (delayed funds, arbitrary lowering of medical cover limits, etc) forcing most private and mission-run health facilities to pull off the deal, leaving public hospitals to run the show. But even in these, the same problems persist and many have been forced to come up with exemptions and lists indicating that they do not cover all services or drugs just because one is a civil servant.
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
