i personally dont like mayweather defensive style, though it very effective. his shoulder forward always running away from the opponent. a hit and run kind of thing. when i watch 90's heavyweight youtube, i think todays boxing is not as entertaining as then. the likes of Holyfield, Roy Jones, Toney, Tyson, Morrison (RIP), Bowe, Moorer....

True that. And it was even greater before that - in the 70's and 80's. It was the golden age of heavyweight boxing. The age of Ali and of Frazier. The age of George Foreman. I can't tell you how many times I have replayed The Rumble in the Jungle and The Thrilla in Manila. It wasn't so much the fight, although that helped with things. It was the hype, the story-line, the trash-talking. That will always set apart the boxers of then from the boxers of now.

It's also interesting that welter-weights like Floyd would seem to steal the thunder from the heavyweights. It seems to me that in the 70's, 80's and 90's, few people even knew there were other divisions besides the heavyweight.

Its just the none boxing fans who think the heavyweight boxers are the best. I agree with the comments here that M Ali is the greatest Boxer to leave and that he does even transcend to other aspects of life, e.g O think he is the sportman of the 20th century.

If you wan to learn more about boxing and some of the greatest rivalries, try out:
- Sugar ray Leonard - Roberto Duran - Marvin Haggler years, this are the eighties, this was not as hyped as the Ali-Foreman-Frazier rivalries of the 70's but was equally intense.

I agree. Just noting the contrast that heavyweight boxing isn't as much of a big deal now as it was then. Nothing to underrate boxers in other divisions.

True that. hes always running( literally) away. Against guerrero earlier this year and then yesterday, just running away. true hes intelligent, but not entertaining. I'd rather Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, Lennox lewis...generation

Mayweathers boxing style is very sergical. He spends the first minute evading his opponent to get them tired and frustrated through his faster foot speed and superior defence.

The next minute he actully moves in and scores the points necessary to win the round by outpunching the opp

In the final minute he again becomes cagey and boxes smart as looks for an opportunity to land a knockout punch if the opponent looses their cool.

It may look look boring coz he is not a brawler but in his defence he is always fighting opponents in a higher weight division so he cannot get into a brawl with heavier opponents. Check his stats he has knocked out most opponent his size or lighter

You are right Obi. This guy is a technique boxer like the Greece team that won the Euro 2004. The most memorable of boxers were not just boxers but fighters who brought passion and heart in the ring. When Mike Tyson stepped into the ring he was not just going for a win but he was there to beat up somebody. Many things will be said about Mike Tyson but one thing will never be taken away from him, the boy could fight. Since Mike Tyson boxing has become a sport and not a fight and for good or ill somehow the latter has more appeal.

Watched Knockout sports on Sony Max - Saturday or Sunday [Can't remember which]. They had a special on Tyson - two or three episodes back to back. It was just a joy to watch and go back down memory lane. A couple of greats retired after being knocked out by tyson! One fellow - I forget his name, had never been knocked down let alone knocked out and everyone thought he's the one who would tame tyson. And the dude was huge! What tyson did to him... I believe he never fought again. A combination of blows and the dude fell on the canvas like he had been hit with a sledge hammer! The minute he hit the canvas you could tell there is no way in hell he's going to stand up.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Earlier in the year I was watching 'Tyson Raw and Uncut' on ESPN classics and man Mike was a joy to watch in the ring......a beast in the ring.

Its a shame ESPN Classic is not aired anymore on DSTV. Boxing greats like R Marciano,J Dempsey, J Louis ans S Liston will be missed by sports fans greatly.
