I project 2016. 1 USD will likely change to 1400 UGX, and 1 KSH to 16 UGX.

Just the 1st Ugandan oil barrell sold and news of how much more can be sold will heighten sentiment and I think cut ur time-lines by half smile (markets are allegedly forward looking). Nevertheless, let's stick around, there is definetly more wealth to be generated smile

Tullow oit is to be listed April 2012.
Already trading in Ghana bourse

Yup..the end we saw from the start is gracefully unfolding. God keep us!!

My only fear of Tullow Oil listing in the Uganda bourse is that the Ugandans will trurn deaf ears to it as they are averse to stocks investments. They like to trade on goods they see but not on paper.

An enlightened Ugandan told me that point blank.

So foreigners again will take positions at the expense of Ugandans.

If possible I would have advised Tullow oil to get listed in the headquarters ...NSE. But my voice is like the rattle of an ant.

Uganda has a long way to go stocks investment wise. I give them 10 years to wake up, so whatever I invest there is for income to service my Crane Bank account.

Buying in the market, is a problem, selling is a bigger headache.
I wonder how the over 10 stockbrokers cope on sparsely traded bourse. Sleep most of the time ??

Hehehe..when Tullow will be listing, I will be busy adding up more SBU on the other end. I understand banking and monetary systems Laughing out loudly I actually find what Tullow does very risky!! (exploration) but do expect Uganda's insurance & pension funds to take pieces of it and of-course fellow Kenyans & others.

The story is not different for the ever conservative Tanzania bourse.

Rwanda, good hope but the reality is forget it for now and in the future.

Burundi ? Next topic ?

End of East African Bourses. The only East African bourse is NSE others are camouflage.

In terms of market liquidity, the setting up of the E.A Stock Ex should solve that in the long run. I find SBU and NIC being active even now.

Amen dear @Cde I hope so. Common EA market, common EA currency, common EA customs union, common everything. Even common traffic wardens.
Hope all East African traffic wardens will wear white like Ugandans with a whistle !.
Practical is different from theory.

Target of west african union (ECOWAS) english speaking was to have a common stock market in 2004, and common currency ECO in 2005. Nothing Nothing except meetings and estacodes and group photographs . I have my reservations.

Hahahaha @group photos Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly. Don't know but the E.A customs union is working progressively, next will be monetary union i think end of 2012. The E.A exchange could proceed ahead only question is whose ccy. Political union forget! We don't need it, lets just trade!! Anyway, my best scenario is the UGX gaining against Kes c/o Oil exports effect improving BoP. That way I think I stand to create more!!!

For UGX to recover lost ground currency wise , it will appreciate against USD, KSH, this is as sure as fate in a couple of years.

It is that conviction and my wish to have roof over my head in EA as a regular traveller at affordable rate made me perch at UG as I could not afford prohibitive prices in Kenya as I wanted it situated in the airport vicinity and I was able to get Kenya Embakassi equivalent in Uganda at Entebbe Road.

Next was food on my table so I was there last April to invest on USE (Uganda Stock Exchange) in the heat of walk-to-work crisis by opposition.

In essence my head (stocks) is in Kenya while my heart(Real Estate + stocks) is with Uganda.

I like ur positioning in UG n so what happens @ your place when u r not there? I knw, perches r kinda ovr priced here, sorry abt that.so I like mortgage finance via KCB S&L. Buying a perch in Zim..either Harare or Vic.falls would good for me but my resources can only be on the ZSE for now. Harare I wouldn't think twice relocating. It's a wondrful city with very smart and warm pple.

Good and common question that people always ask.
Purely a yearly holiday home am fully on ground in my native Nigeria, just to avoid paying for accomodation when I retire in a couple of years.

It is just a 1/8 acre plot which I have fully paid and have commenced payment for the construction by the same building Co Akright Properties, the price for construction is UGX105 Million spread over 24 months. Luckily depreciation of UGX is to my advantage as i periodically pay in USD by wire transfer.

I even believe when the house is fully built it will be under utilized (once a year) so the idea would be to rent out, rent paid to my dividend aUG Crane Bank ccount so from there I have more than enough for once a year accomodation for myself and family.

Hope is clear now ?

I get u now. I'd presumed that there was a structure there already.thanx n' if those guys good then it'll buy u time as u retire while they construct. The renting option is wise w/o a doubt. U could use the rent money for a reasonable cottage for U & fam and some blow money. Works out well.

It is a 3 bedroom bungalow in an up coming well planned estate called Kakungulu Satelite City
18 KM from Kampala City with sophisticated infrastructures like Golf course (already in place), housing estates, office blocks, green areas and other recreational centers made of over 2000 housing units. Work comnmenced in 1999 but will fully or formerly opened in 2013 by your friend M7 of Uganda, he also inaugurated the estate in 2006, so it is a big thing in UG standard.
The plot was 12M UGX and I also paid installmentally.

Your advise about renting is a good one because 3 bedroom flat in the estate at the moment is
800,000 UGX per month which is a big amount in Uganda standard ie 30k Ksh per month.

The website of the agents (the biggest indegenous real estate firm in Uganda) is

www.akright.biz

Karibu Sana @Cde

Another African country that was a laughing stock and politically unstable some years back is Ghana.

Things are now looking up there. I am also positioning there for stocks. Again the market is not liquid but not as bad as UG or Tz.

I complement that with Databank mutual fund products discussed earlier and of course real estate.

Young guys like you are not always interested in real estate "hassles" till later in life. I was exactly the same. I hated anything block and mortar. Now I am singing a diffrent song, because from my point of view one cannot live by stocks a lone in SSA. You must have to complement it one way or the other with real estate. I ventured into real estate at 44 in 2006 So late but more seriously in 2008 after the global economic melt down when all stocks went south wards.

I believe in investing on blue chips across markets and you see my posts in NSE because that is the only discussion group I come across. But NSE is less than a tenth of my holding, My stake in my native Nigeria or talk of Ghana is more than NSE but there is no discussion forum.
Often times too I am extremely busy you can notice from my numerous typo error as my brains are faster than my hands on the pc keyboard.

My opinions may be strange or can I say stupid. Often times there is sense in non sense as experience counts. We are all different with different ideals and objectives.

Bye

Especially on the real estate end. I'm still accountable to a few (single @27) so i'm doing my gutsy moves now b4 I settle down with greater need for stabilty.

The GFC in 08/09set me back money wise thus delaying my MDGs smile but when I look back, it was actually a period I amassed great wisdom and learned how to solve problems with my faculties than what I was used to i.e throwing money @ problems smile. Now i'm on the Masters programme, pre-08 was my Under-grad smile
