Was he living in Kenya in 2017?

Registration is a continuous process by law.

Going by demographics he might just have it.

I came home, I checked into a registration centre and registered myself. It is a continuous exercise and I felt I needed to fulfill my civic duty. I didn't vote though, but I campaigned and left just before voting.

So for me it is surprising to hear someone wasn't registered until few week ago, is registered in a different constituency ( doesn't matter what the law says, he will not be able to cast a vote for himself ) but wants to run for office and hopes to be take seriously.

The point is you did it when you could, he also did the same, registered when he could. Both of you are eligible voters by the Kenyan law.

The problem is our laws. Hapo juu kwa hii thread i suggested that we go back to the old system where for one vie for a seat, he would have to be a resident of the area and also own property within that area. That way we would eliminate political tourists and opportunists and also elect people who are genuinely interested in the welfare of the area they have been elected as leaders. Right now people living in karen, runda etc want to represent kibera, mathare etc and that does not make sense. One must be a resident of the locality that he wants to represent. Or would you elect a stranger to be the leader of your estate or gated community or village?

I don't know why people are arguing about the legality of mariga's candidature. Truth be told, tangatanga saw a loophole in the law and went for it.

Now to politics 101.

During the rally where kris darlin knelt before baba, imran okoth was heckled and couldn't adress the crowds. But on voting day, he took it hands down. The secret ; network of loyal ground supporters.

Even if wsr pours 1B shillings in Kibra, he has zero chance of creating this critical network for mariga. There is nothing like a luhya vote. You work it bottom-up. Tim wanyonyi is virtually unbeatable in westlands (read kangemi). Once saw him engaging with women running a table banking group in kangemi. Dude knows his game. He has 1,000s of women who would take a bullet for him. Simba arati started as a youth mobilizer in kawangware before becoming a councillor. Now he is MP for lavington/kilimani (read kawangware).

But the nest two months, kibra will rain money like never before.

I think someone should be embarrassed for wanting to represent an area/people where he doesn't reside nor know their issues. Hapa I agree with you.
