I dont believe i this notion that Naikuni is the problem. The airline business itself is just tough and highly volatile. The history of the airline business is fraught with several bankruptcies - I would refer you to PanAm, American Airlines etc Naikuni has really grown the organisation since he joined many years ago.

"When a manager with a reputation of brilliance meets a bad business, it is the reputation of the business that survives" - Warren Buffett

@kibunda do you know that for every one airline to have gone wound up atleast ten banks have done the same.. Further to this, some airlines have been through hard times but have persisted a la Qatar, Ethiopian, British, Kenya Airways!
@boris, uchumi, dunkang et al.. i posed a question. it was not a statement. my portfolio as well known here at wazua, contains coop, kq, bok, kegn, kcb

@obiero, you raise good points. Infact you reinforce my point that the captain has managed to keep the vessel afloat.

this is kenya. here, some bad leaders thrive mainly coz the country has a never die attitude. who can explain 27 years under Moi. or why eveready is still trading

Kenya Airways due to get 7 new wide body aircraft this year

The airline’s CEO Dr. Titus Naikuni earlier this week confirmed that KQ, following the first B787-8 arrival in Nairobi on the 04th of April will receive a further 5 such aircraft this year, plus one more B777-300ER, with 400 seats in a dual class configuration the largest aircraft the airline ever owned and operated. Said Dr. Naikuni when making the announcement: ‘We are pleased to be using Dreamliner for our expansion plans, which will be both more environmentally friendly and more economic as we embrace the benefits of its design. The delivery of these exciting aircraft opens a new chapter and a very exciting time for the airline. Long haul routes to Paris, Amsterdam and Beijing are among the destinations earmarked for direct flights, as we continue exploring new markets that will be instrumental in helping us achieve our objective, to contribute towards the sustainable development of Africa. Introduction of direct flights to destinations like Paris and Amsterdam will boost key sectors of Kenya’s economy such as tourism and horticulture’.

... The arrival of the new bird follows hot on the heels of the start of Kenya Airways’ own low cost airline Jambojet which is due to launch flight operations on the 01st of April, flying from Nairobi to Mombasa (5 times a day), to the lake side city of Kisumu (twice a day) and to Eldoret (10 times a week), taking over much of the present domestic network of Kenya Airways for domestic point to point traffic.

Jambo Jet receives bookings ahead of launch

Kenya Airways’ domestic low cost carrier Jambo Jet, scheduled to launch on April 01 2014, had received 8,500 bookings on the Nairobi to Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret routes as at 04 March since bookings were opened on 27 February. The number of bookings was in line with management’s expectations and driven by the low fares charged. Jambo Jet is charging 2,850 for a one-way ticket from Nairobi to Mombasa, Kisumu or Eldoret, which are the lowest fares among all domestic carriers. 80.0% of the total bookings were made online, which was above management’s expectations. To increase market share for Jambo Jet, Kenya Airways will withdraw its current flights on the Nairobi-Eldoret route on April 01. We expect Jambo Jet’s low fares to continue attracting favourable passenger numbers and accelerate growth in Kenya Airways’ domestic passenger revenues (accounted for 6.3% of total FY13 revenue). That has been one of the most lucrative sub sahara Africa routes for KQ;sad to see them lose it but hope they manage to improve service and increase capacity on other routes to compensate

No more matatus for busy businessmen. I think this is a good move by Kenya Airways. We have many young and upcoming business men who would like to traverse the whole of this republic at friendly air fares. Kudos and lets do business.

Kenya Airways Bags ‘Most Punctual Airline’ At Heathrow For The Third Time

Kenya’s national airline Kenya Airways has for the third time been named by Heathrow Airport as the most punctual airline, leaving over 80 other carriers trailing in their wake again. From information provided by the airline’s General Manager UK, Europe and the Americas, Ms. Nita Nagi, ALL flights in February left London on time for Nairobi, a remarkable feat considering the often notoriously bad UK weather and the unrelenting demand on runway space for take offs.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Kenya Airways’ confirmation that flights to Paris will be re-launched on the 03rd of June this year, signaling a fresh expansion drive made possible by the arrival on 04th of April of KQ’s first B787-8 Dreamliner, a further 5 such planes before the end of 2014 and an additional B777-300ER. 7 flights a week out of LHR = 1 flight a day out of LHR. Good to be 100% punctual but not an achievement to crow about when you have 1 flight a day!
