From that article:

"The first candidate in the three names submitted to the minister is currently employed, and earns a salary of Sh1.084 million, but had told the NSCE he was willing to work for Sh900 thousand or less.

The NSC said: “This raises a lot of queries as to why one would leave a well paying job and go for less pay. How then will he or she maintain the status quo of his living style?”"

Kwani no one in Kenya can work for less money to improve a government agency? Says alot about our leadership values. What a pointless statement.

One Dr. Kioko mang'eli,a competent md was shown the door for refusing interference and pm's hand was seen there...now kosgei puts in a clansman worse enough a mr. kosgei contrary to the boards wishes....obviously dont expect the president or pm to comment becoz kosgei is loyal to them and am sure he consulted them....in your honest opinions can this minister convince you he is right and when will this tribalism and impunity end??

I get it from someone in the know that Mang'eli had doubled his salary contrary to government regulations. The government blue book has pegged the KEBS MD's salary to Kshs 750k. Mang'eli (though with the consent of the board) was paying himself Kshs 1.5m!!

There is more than meets the eye in this scandal. The board of KEBS had shortlisted 5 guys instead of the required 3 guys. Of the 5 two had already been disqualified, 1 for being 56 years old and the other for asking for a Kshs 2.1 million salary. The other 2 were the Mr Koskei who was appointed, and a Mr Aduda in 4th and 5th place.

Mr Koskei is actually very qualified for the post and is in his mid - late 30s. Also, 8 out of the 13 directors were opposed to the chairman's actions in unilaterally forwarding the names of 3 nominees without consulting them!

There is more than meets the eye in this issue!

are we complaining because Henry Kosgei appointed a fellow tribesman? have we looked at the qualifications of Mr. Koskei and found him unqualified for such an appointment? Did we raise a similar alarm when Kimunya appointed a fellow kiuk to head KAA, and when Kibaki appointed the new CID boss? are kenyans just too chok-a-blok with tribal rhetoric?

Good info Sasha.

The Board Chairman, The Permanent Secretary and the assistant Minister in the docket all come from the same ethnic community, could it be that they did have a common interest?Liar Liar Liar

true that the 100k or so difference might not make a big dent in his pocket.

he wanted that job badly. how badly? what did he see in it? to him was it just another job or something greater, like a cash cow or golden-egg-laying-goose?

those are legitimate musings bwana.

so we have two sides to the story.

this saga requires just one more action to be complete: someone publicly ordering kosgey to step aside until investigations are complete.

but wait a minute - i think he comes from the holy party. so that does not apply here.
