Rank: Member Joined: 11/16/2009 Posts: 152		Kencell=> Celtel=> Zain=> Bharti seems like someone is on a mission to use all the letters of the alphabet in the name of making a name. The biggest branding mistake this company(for lack of a definate name) made atleast in the Kenyan market its to identify with the rich in its entry stage while their erstwhile competitors went for the bottom end of the pyramid. That image has proven to be indelible mainly because every Tom Dick and Harry was now in sufferringin-a-coma(safaricom) and it has become difficult to move them away.If Bharti have any hopes of making any profits in Kenya then they push hard for the idea of number portability. The Strong Do What They Want,The Weak Do What They Must!

But you have to admit the MD Rene Meza (or sth like that)did one of the best corporate rebranding (Celtel to Zain) jobs ever witnessed in corporate Kenya. Why, he was even rewarded for it by one of the professional bodies in Kenya. Their list of past brand names is growing longer than Hanuman's tail... and a further name change is still in the offing with Bharti's debut into our network! I can already see advertising agencies rubbing their hands with glee and drolling furiously at the prospect of laying their grubby hands on the rebranding job millions- yet again. Some people have all the luck.

I heard that the MD was also called Zain (no relation to the other one), but he left the company...any idea why?
