Today is world cancer day. The question is for those of us that are cancer free for now, what is the safeguard to prevent it? In some Saharan African countries that I am familiar with (Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya) cancer is the second most deadly non communicable diseases with a very high death casualty. The first is cardiovascular diseases. As at 2014 statistics available to me the death rate is as follows on cancer related ailment. Kenya. 40,000 per year Ghana. 31,000 per year Nigeria. 98,000 per year. As the death date per population, Kenya unfortunately is the highest. In a nutshell two basic reasons are the risk factors for any type of cancer 1. diet:- High intake of acidic foods rather than alkaline foods 2. sedetary life style which implies lack of exercise. Besides the cost, if you know the pains during treatment (chemotherapy) and adverse effect of drugs that cancer patients are exposed to, you will not wish even your enemies to have cancer.
