I've always wondered why senior journalists seem to think there is a country next to Kenya called "SOMALI"

I once asked them to come cover an important event, through what i thought was a senior connection within the "" newspaper, where several wazungu had come for a very good charitable cause, the corruption started with the photographer who demanded 25K to ensure the photo is printed (as the other journalist fiddled around dumbly awaiting my reaction so they can place their demands), very arrogant and the corruption chain in the press was going upwards from the photographer, i don't need to think very hard to believe the common claim of sex for jobs in the press. Former anti-corruption czar is a good example of what kind of people you deal with in the press, people who have hit the glass ceiling of thinking and appear incapable of breaking it. They need to clean their houses.

I think he pays the editor cause he seemed very confident in his demand, he did not care if i reported him, but to get the article printed leave alone the photo, editors and the rest will all ask for something for sure. That's why they concentrate on politics, there is more money to collect there!

Is it the proliferation of private universities and parallel program? Where high school "failures" are rewarded?

University education has been watered down and mixed with a stinky broth of get-rich-quick and the high life.

I'm better of hiring and training my staff than hiring "those" graduates who can't even communicate in fluent English yet they won't do Kiswahili.

Partly. That, along with some questionable hiring practices. You all recall the messy affair that was revealed about nmg a few years back. This has the effect of communicating to the upcoming ones that they don't have to put too much effort in their studies or jobs, that all they have to do is know a few senior people (godfathers) as well as engage in a few questionable practices and their jobs are assured, mediocrity notwithstanding!!
