I think a view of parliament as independent of population and the 1 man 1 vote rule stems from our understanding of an MP to mean an area Santa Claus. The guy is supposed to be giving you school fees, constructing schools, dispensaries, roads, giving you money for siku kuu etc

And when you send him to Nairovi your understanding is that he has gone to get you more money for projects from the national govt and other donors.

Which is why we like queuing at their offices to beg...we think they should just be spending on us and yet hypocritically condemn them when they increase their perks.Shame on you Hata hatuna aibuShame on you Shame on you

The reason legislatures exist whether senate, national assembly, knesset, congress, duma, county assembly is to REPRESENT us in decision making! See, all voters can't be voting on every small decision(bill, govt budget, Mututho law etc) and thus they send 'one of them' to represent them.

Je tuko pamoja ama niandike kiPokomo?

wacha ku generalize issues,

The figures of the individuals who line up at their offices as a ratio of the individuals who voted for them is negligible.

Uko peke yako.

When was the last time - or the first time - your 'representer' sought your contribution as his constituent whom he REPRESENTS on an issue he later went to speak about?

Can you stand up today and say that you 'own' your representative's contribution - because, well, he expressed and communicated what you were after?

Your talk resonates well with the 'representatives' but hardly with the 'represented' and is political 'kisingizio.

I like your thoughts...I find them logical. In fact, I expected someone to raise the point you're raising.

Can I own my representative's choice? In most cases for voters, YES. You find for instance Jubilee MPs will vote with their people on matters that are of interest to them eg ICC while CORD will oppose govt as the voters in their strongholds do.

I talk like the representatives? LOL! You reason like they want you to reason. They want you to think they're Santa Claus. To wait for handouts and projects. They're happy if you stay that way.

Let us not forget that govt's law making organ is parliament. It is powerful and can even kick out the executive. You need to take your MP to task over performance in parliament.

To believe that politics runs primarily in Parliament, is to be taken by the sweetest red herring around. It's a shackle on Wanjiku's hand and mind.

The market has a very strong position to play, but we are neglecting it. That's why we are crying about the wage bill.

Government and business; how to go about it? That's the political challenge we are facing.

@Siringi, 'our taxes'? Only? What about incomes?

Why is the question not how we increase our incomes by paying taxes? And electing people to office?

@tycho last time I checked GoK relies mainly on taxes to generate revenues

What % of GoK revenue are from 'GoK Income' halafu borrowings which by the way are repaid through ... say it ===>more taxes
