My friend of all of east Africa i would not advice on Tanzania. The Tanzanians actually do not like Kenyans, no let me rephrase that they detest Kenyans .
If you self drive into their country your number plate will be a siren advertising your ability to bribe big. Immediately after entering the country be ready with all necessary documentation plus the necessary vehicle safety gear i.e first aidbox et al. don't let this fool you, they'll still find a way, but it makes it more difficult to harass you.
Therefore don't ignore those brokers at the Kenya border, talk to them they can really save you alot of future problems. Also have as many Tanzanian shillings broken down into 500 to 1000 to bribe. be patient and negotiate with them. behave like a school kid before an headmaster (they really like that). yaani unyenyekee usilete ujuaji wa Kenya uko utakiona.
After the border up to moshi cops understand the Kenyan rules of asking for bribes but after moshi you are on your own. It's a no man's land and rules do not apply.
Dar re salam is like mombasa 10 years ago - filthy. Garbage unswept, stagnating water in ditches and drains. People sleeping on pavements and helping themselves on the streets, raw sewage disposed off directly to the sea and most of all no beaches except for bagamoyo which is also full of sea weeds and few visitors.
Now if you really have to go to Tanzania, my advice is to go with a local, or a guide ,or if you can afford it go with a tour group or fly, you will not miss a thing. Anything worth seeing is in zanzibar. I don't know about the rest of Tanzania but their attitude leaves alot to be desired, but their country is a gold mine sitting unexploited. I ate some of the best mangos and pineapples from that region growing wild like weeds, no weeding or cultivation they just plant them and go on and come back later to pluck them. That's how fertile it is.
The best town in Tanzania is arusha followed by moshi. Ukifika a Arusha umefika Tanzania come back then go to zanzibar direct end of story.
