well said deal, we dont need short, long or any kind of selling. nse is a very young market for such < 100 companies. just make commissions 1% and settlement period 1 day and see what happens. ...for starters.

If am not wrong it will be the exchange with the least no. of listed co.s where short selling can be undertaken...

... its okay .... we short the counters that are clearly overvalued and go long on those that are clearly undervalued. .... Yea, Bulls will make money, bear will but pigs wont!!! ... Choice is yours!!!

In this case.. too many pigs.

The result may 'drown' both bears & bulls

I think day trading will be introduced first and short selling at the appropriate time and now is not the appropriate time for shorting on the NSE!

But I do like the direction we are moving in! smile

In agreement, we've been crawling, now lets walk first before running. I've seen "Kenyans" who think they are good for this get burnt when venturing to the developed markets through firms like Franklin Templeton. After reading a few books and articles, they rushed not remembering that some of these trades requires one with a good/wholesome system that not only sniffs for information but does data scrapping and is extremely fast in terms of connectivity for efficient and effective execution of trades.

Anyone has more on what extra measures in place?

Very nice to see day trading coming to NSE.

But margin trading as well as derivates are not wanjikus child play. Who will educate wanjikus?

Finally those stocks that pretend to rally on fumes will be put in their place prompty. I can hardly wait for this to create extreme bull and bear sentiment cocktail. Selling bull extremes and buying bear extremes for quick gains. Cartoons will become more popular.
