Mind detailing the sizes eg
Asia - 44.6M SqKMs
Africa - 30M SqKMs
North America - 24.6M SqKMs
South America - 17.8M SqKMs
Antarctica - 13.2M SqKMs
Europe - 9.9M SqKMs
Australia/Oceania - 8M SqKMs

My only question would be why does Asia, with only 10M more sq kms have 60% of the worlds population? And four times that of Africa? Is it coz the English never colonized them?

possibly disease!

Why population of India and China is comparatively high:
.They were able to discover medicine for most of common diseases long ago, hence low mortality rates
.Due to hostility of Muslims and the fact that Africa was conjoined to Asia, Europeans could not reach India / China on a massive scale till 15th Century. Their populations were thus preserved from the disruptive Europeans
.Their Society was more homogeneous hence less internal conflicts = less mortality rates
.There were fewer wild animals = less mortality rates
.They were not transported to other continents as slaves
Africa was the exact opposite till 20th century; slave trade took away a huge chunk of healthy population.
Native Americans were wiped out by European diseases

in the scheme of things Native Americans received the short end of the stick! Heck people even forget about them!

England as tiny as it is has caused untold suffering the world over! In addition there were and still continue to be monetary system giants. Is there something special in that country? Food, air, bigger brain size etc

Flipping the globe won't just work coz the earth's axis does not run horizontally through the equator but vertically (or vertically inclined through the equator)The poles are nothing but reference points in relation to the equator while facing "North"and thus was born East and West....Africans had a away of defining East and West, thus in my community, reference was the sun's position hence,"ithuiro" for West and "Irathiro" for East......Just a moment. It's the Earth which rotates and in which direction?.If we faced South and reffered to our East as West and vice-versa,wouldn't we be implying that it's the sun which is rotating viz a stationary Earth?....or wouldn't we be going back in time instead of being on top of time?......Anyway,i still would be confused coz if i took the Greenwich line all the way to dead top,my North would be any direction since the point rotates on zero circumference.......ooops.I am tired of thinking!....Wapi Mukiha?

lol.... as i said

Think about it... in the great expanse of space - there is no north, no south, no east and no west! no horizontal and no vertical. no top and no bottom! no point of reference to deduce these directional things!

The earth is tilted at a 23.5 degree angle perpendicular to our orbit around the sun.

using my quotation above as a reference it means if we were 'aliens' approaching the solar system we could approach it from any angle and it would not the traditional view i.e.

it could be

or it could be

or

there is no plane of reference except where you are coming from.
ps. the photo I attached at the beginning was the original photo taken by Apollo 17 before it was changed to fit the orientation propagated by maps

@Masukuma,
All this i getsmile .....but i am not diasppointed by the photo as such since in our case, there is no top (or the top is virtual.Just in our minds. Many who will see this will wonder what the hell the damn Apollo was doing "below" the Earth). It's the same thing again. If you gave Wazuans a gun to shoot the moon,i am certain 99.99% would aim the gun straight to the moon and fire!

As for the maps....Well.Every day is a learning day!

The size of Texas and that of Kenya are relatively the same, but if u look at the map, Kenya looks like a tiny rag....plays well with our psychology, they think "BIG" we think "small"

our brains have been messed with for so long!

Greenland takes as much space on the map as Africa, when in reality Africa's area is 14 times greater and Greenland's area is comparable to Algeria's alone.
Alaska takes as much area on the map as Brazil, when Brazil's area is nearly five times that of Alaska.
Finland appears with a greater north-south extent than India, although India's is greater.
Antarctica appears as the biggest continent, although it is actually the fifth in terms of area.

it is my argument that all these 'images' have had a negative impact on africa not only to the eyes of the western world but by africans themselves. images such as this represent Africa's perception of itself

plague our minds about Africa and even some parts of Kenya. I always ask myself - before these humanitarian organizations came to be - who was feeding Africans? I mean depending on who you ask we have 'plagued' this continent for thousands of years. Turkana did not suddenly become 'a desert' in the 80s. The turkana move into what is now known as the turkana basin some 200-300 years ago - who was feeding them?
Our image has taken a beating - if it is not hunger, its war in the more arable areas of Africa, if not war its Aids if not Aids its tribalism and tribal anarchy. its shocking that even in the eyes of Africans themselves we convince ourselves that 'we would have been further ahead' if only the colonialist stayed for longer! what we forget is that colonialism did not only bring roads and buildings but also brought forced labour, heavy taxation, and swift and vengeful violence for any insurrection. Development was essentially organised to extract cheap cash crops and natural resources for use by the colonial powers. To facilitate easy administration, tribal differences and rivalries were exploited to the full, and Africans who refused to assimilate to the culture of their overlords were kept out of the market economy and the education system - the once glorious ethnic group the Maasai is a testament to this. Our 'tribalism' is actually a by product of colonialism. Our country was divided into ethnic blocks where certain ethnic groups live. Super tribes like the Kalenjin and Luhya were invented in the 1940s to balkanize people.

its time we took control of our destiny - we have no friends! for the last 300 years African labour build the 'new world' and now our minerals and wealth is building the east! Zindukeni and determine the future you want your kids to live in. Self sufficiency is the only way out! the only way to get some respect around here.

A question I never got an answer! When in exactly north pole position, can one still say there's north? Same question applies to south pole. As for East-West, I can reason with that!!
Sometimes I usually feel that we should do away with these western style of doing things. It is ripping our continent apart. For example, personally, I have decided my marriage is African. Hakuna kiherehre mingi ya wedding, sijui honeymoon.
Furthermore, come to think of it, back in the days as a kid, I never heard of sijui mother's day, anniversaries, presents left and center, etc yet our mothers and fathers lived happily "ever after" unlike these days with all that junk into the relationship.
Man must live!
