When the Egyptian President threatened to go to war over the dam, the Ethiopian PM asked them to go ahead and then went ahead to build the dam. Channeling of the water started on the 28th of May, if they haven't done anything, they will do nothing. This 'kichwa ngumu' attitude will lead us to the 3rd world war. Might be the last for humanity. But I've always wondered, sometimes loudly, about this... Why can't we process ocean water for irrigation and human consumption? If we can get tonnes of steel to fly, surely we can do that?

May be you should ask, why the Kisumu county residents should go without water in their taps yet the source of River nile is that basin called L. I understand that these waters are the lifeline for countries like Egypt and Sudan but that said - these colonial treaties need to be revisited as we cannot have our hands tied while 90% of the benefits of these resources are enjoyed by these few countries that are down stream. I am yet to understand how a dam will cause a threat to pharaoh's and bashirs. I mean apart from the initial reservoir, which is short term, the water has to be "let go" to turn the turbines and generate the electricity, right?? i.am.back!!!!

The soil carried by the nile and deposited along the river course and at the delta is of much concern. All that soil will settle on the reservoir. Secondly, for political reason, fears of Ethiopia holding Egypt at ransom can be factored. E.g. Ethiopia may decide to divert the water for irrigation not in areas in the nile watershed, but in other regions (inter-catchment water transfer e.g pipe water from Kisumu to Garissa) through piping hence reducing the quantities flowing to Egypt. But as a Kenyan am FULLY supporting Ethiopia coz the nile has more than enough for everyone in its watershed and beyond (read bulk transfer to Israel and Libya). Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.” ― Rashi
