Actually I was mistaken, Ajax's playmaker is Christian Eriksen, whom we really want but seems determined to stay at Ajax for a while longer. I don't mind us getting an extra first team midfielder but for the rest of the season, Scholes, Cleverley and Carrick will have to do with cameo roles by Giggs and Park.

I believe next season we should be ok if Anderson and Fletcher return but we still need the extra really creative midfielder, as injureis have shown. Probably Cleverley and Pogba (if he stays) will grow into the role in time - Anderson should have done that by now but still has a level of immaturity, let's face it he's not Luka Modric.

manure scrap thru in amsterdam. they somehow put 2 past ajax. welldone to them. as for my team, the porto goalie was in inspired form during the first half. porto are solid. but quality always comes thru. am glad we got those 2 second half goals to win the first leg 2-1. go man city go

Worried shitless for Valencia, a MONTH??? Pray oh no...I just don't know if the other winger's can step in and provide as much venom as he does...Nani in particular makes the worst decisions on average...

This is the time I pray that its mind games by SAF...

Nani was awful yesterday, rusty as a bad nail, and selfish as usual to boot!I'm so annoyed/worried Valencia won't feature in the Spurs game - Assou Ekotto would have been run ragged! The problem with Nani is that he blows hot and cold, and I hope he's hot auntil Valencia returns. There was one where he ahd acres of space to cut the ball back to Rooney who was waiting to strike with his right foot and he decided to shoot high and wide!Asshole!

That said, it was great to see Cleverley back. With him and Scholes, our midfield is suddenlt alive!Wish we had scored a 3rd goal but it'll be difficult for Ajax to overturn a 2 away goal deficit.

I watched the first half of the City game - Porto looked promising in first 15 minutes but ae a shade of their former self, the worst City would have gotten was a draw, and Kun made sure they take the advantage to Etihad.

I hope Athletico make their away goal at Lokomotiv count, I don't wish for our players to travel to Moscow in the round of 16!

No biggie, DD is a good goalie, just confidence is what he needs...well SAF said the same thing about Cech...about not signed signing VDS earlier in his career...so no need to panic.

@ Smano....i think what really disturbs SAF is the amount spent on De Gea. I said it earlier and I'm going to repeat it again, he is a good keeper with a lot of potential but 20m was too much for a young GK who's still developing and was yet to be tested in the more physical EPL....there was too much pressure on this guy. Btw IMHO, i think Lindergaard is your best keeper problem is SAF wouldn't be too comfortable resting such an expensive signing.

We're stuck with De Gea but he'll come good once he gets the basics of corners and set pieces floated into the D right - he's very athletic and makes some ridiculous saves e.g.the one against Juan Mata in the game at the Bridge must be contender for save of the European season!

City put 4 past a hapless Porto - same team that won 3 trophies last season...tsk tsk tsk.

Today Rooney is not available but the lads should do the job - it'll be intersting to watch Chicha and Wellbeck being fed by Cleverley, Pogba also likely to feature. Hope selection convinces him to sign the dotted line!

I'm sure it has something to do with broadcasting rights....the Europa Liga fixtures are more than the CL ones so they can't all be played on the same night especially with two teams from Manchester playing at home.

Fergie's admission sums up the 2nd half performance - I can't add anything more to it. Bilbao will bundle us out with that sort of performance - the youngsters are not up to par!
