I'd want to know from KRA's Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, how much PAYE contributes to the overall Tax Collections.
I'd bet its not more than 10%, again, the administration cost incurred by KRA in collecting PAYE is nil, since employers remit PAYE at KRA's doorstep.
I think a more realistic approach would be to increase the tax brackets on the upper limits and offcourse ignore taxation on hapless kenyans earning less than Ksh 20,000.
It should be a wake-up call to KRA to get landlords and land-owners in the tax drag net.
Can't agree less.PAYE can be lowered without neccessarily hurting overall collection. The taxman need to widen his base to include landlords as you have rightly put it and i wouldn't mind if he went for churches.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
